For some reason, reading this thread really makes me miss the Crocodile Hunter :shades:

Never kill a black snake! I have had to get a few of them out of my garage, (they were not cooperative) but they are our buddies.

I will kill any venomous snake I find in my yard, as Mama says, my (grand) kids need to be protected. In the woods, I wouldn't mess with any of them, unless it bites me.

I would not indiscriminately kill a snake. Only if it is poisonous. I just bought a book this evening. Copperheads and the Timber Rattlesnake are what are in the Appalachian area for us,

I carry a NAA 22 Magnum with Snakeshot. I has a 6 inch spread at 3-5 feet. Then again, a Hoe is even better. Cut off the head but be careful with the head since it still has venom. Rattlesnakes have a higher amount of venom than Copperheads.

I never pick up something with my bare hands because of Black Widows and snakes. I move stuff with a stick or shovel.

CDRGlock. I hear ya' on the hoe. A good hoe with a nice piece of ash for a handle works wonders on a snake.

Here is the futility with your logic regarding snakes. If it has not bitten you before you can pull your pistol and aim your gun at its head then you have time to scare it off or walk around it. If you don't have time then it has already bitten you and you had better get to a hospital rather than spend time trying to kill something that has bitten you. I am not sure that "working around your property" is a good reason to go and kill snakes.

By the way, I have owned non venomous snakes that could kill you quicker than any rattlesnake or Mamba. People used to travel across the seas to see our 25 foot reticulated python. A beast!! 300 pounds of pure muscle.

By the way, the Crocodile Hunter has in his hands something called a Woma. It is a type of python and is about as docile as you get for a snake. Kind of like holding a wet spaghetti noodle.

Here is where you are mistaken. I am not the only one who walks around my house. I have a 8, 6, 3, and 1 year old that walk around my house. They are not as careful as I am nor as experienced. If they come across a non venomous snake the worst we could end up with (in this country) is a bite and a tetanus shot. If they come across a timber rattler or a copperhead we could be looking at a fatality. If I come across a venomous snake in my yard it is done. I will use a shovel and dispatch the creature not because I hate it, but because I love my children.

Do we have any of those non venomous snakes that can kill so quick here.....not really. Could there be an escaped python...maybe and if it is in my yard and animal control won't come and get it, well after I call my neighbors and make sure it is not any of theirs if it won't shove off then it must go as well. I don't keep 25 foot potential killers around my kids, and I have never seen here in VA pythons that grow to such incredible lengths in the wild (FL is a different story).

MamabearCali has the right idea, as I see it. I would also consider pets and livestock as sufficient reason to dispatch a venomous snake.

Womas do not have stripes running down their back. They have bands. I used to own Womas.

Retics grow to very long lengths in captivity. If you need witness names I will provide names for 50 bucks a pop. Our retic was the longest in captivity! We had several Burmese pythons, those are the Florida pythons you speak of, over 15 feet in length. Just make sure that you don't walk upon a big retic because if it gets you first you will be dead in a matter of minutes or less. You will not escape its coils. Retics are far deadlier than the pytons in Florida...just google reticulated python attacks! A retic will question your manhood.

That is either a children's python or a spotted python. If you zoom on the picture you can tell it has spots and not bands
