Square’s Decision to Ban Firearms, Ammo Sales
Remember our discussion of SQUARE a few month ago? Some of you may want to re-think using them in light of this.

Just cancelled our company account with Square, and sent them a nastygram about their policy.

Re: Square’s Decision to Ban Firearms, Ammo Sales
I sent them an email asking why they dropped firearms accessories.
I replied, "You didn't answer my question." Their response?Hello Patrick,
Thanks for writing in.
It is against our Seller Agreement to use Square for anything related to sales of (i) firearms, firearm parts or hardware, and ammunition; or (ii) weapons and other devices designed to cause physical injury.
Moving forward, please refrain from using Square to process these transactions or we will be forced to deactivate your account.

Thank you for your cooperation.
Hello,
Thanks for writing back. As stated in Section 54 of the Seller’s Agreement (https://squareup.com/legal/seller-agreement), we have the right to change or add to the terms of this Agreement at any time.

What do you plan on migrating to? I'm interested in moving my CC processing business to a competitor now.ProShooter wrote:Just cancelled our company account with Square, and sent them a nastygram about their policy.

We recently started using the Paypal unit and I like it better.ShotgunBlast wrote:What do you plan on migrating to? I'm interested in moving my CC processing business to a competitor now.ProShooter wrote:Just cancelled our company account with Square, and sent them a nastygram about their policy.

That's interesting, because I thought there were anti-gun as well.ProShooter wrote:We recently started using the Paypal unit and I like it better.

A lot of people say that about them (and ebay; one owns the other I think), but we've had a great relationship with Paypal for at least 5 years.ShotgunBlast wrote:That's interesting, because I thought there were anti-gun as well.ProShooter wrote:We recently started using the Paypal unit and I like it better.

They don't want my business...so I will avoid using them and letting vendors know why I am avoiding them.

Re: Square’s Decision to Ban Firearms, Ammo Sales
Ugh, Paypal has blown away (and KEPT) money from me twice.
Re: Square’s Decision to Ban Firearms, Ammo Sales
ebay changed their policy on some gun parts after the VA Tech shootings/murders. They would no longer allow the sales of magazines, barrels, triggers, hammers, bolts (the parts of a gun the bullets touch/work with) on their site.
Some people got around it by calling bolts a "headspace checking device", other names were used for other parts.
Now, since the latest gun and ammo buying craze has started I see magazines for sale all the time on ebay so maybe they've changed their restrictions to cash in on all the high dollar sales going on (crazy what some people will pay for magazines/ammo).
I do know that in the past I've had paypal refuse transactions on the internet where I was buying ammo or gun parts from some vendors. From other vendors the transaction would go through no problem, but there were some where I could buy a lower receiver parts kit, but not magazines, so who knows when/where paypal will work/not work.

I have used PayPal for a long time , never have any major issues. Best to keep an eye on your account though !Mindflayer wrote:Ugh, Paypal has blown away (and KEPT) money from me twice.
Re: Square’s Decision to Ban Firearms, Ammo Sales
eBay owns PayPal. PayPal has no qualms with allowing cyber criminals to use the service (I work in e-crime), but I'd expect them to take a similar anti-gun position very soon.
Never used Moblized (Square alternative), but their ToS doesn't reference firearms: https://www.moblized.com/terms-and-conditions
BofA (Booooo!) is very anti-gun, but they've release a service that allows payment just by using an email address (like you can do in Canada). This doesn't help us directly, other banks will be likely to follow with similar services soon.

I also closed two BOA accounts earlier this year because of their anti-gun position .

I received this reply:
Hello,
Thanks for writing in. To ensure a safe, secure and trusted experience for all Square customers, we require that Square merchants agree to comply with all applicable law, and the terms of Square’s agreements and policies. Our banks and the payment card networks have also determined that certain transactions, while legal, present high risk exposure to Square, our merchants and their customers.
For an overview of goods and or services that are prohibited from sale with Square, please visit https://squareup.com/help/article/5089. If you believe your business operates one of the prohibited business models or sells any of the goods or services listed within this article, you will not be able to use Square to process transactions.
