G4S International Training Inc.
So this past Friday I had the pleasure of taking the Tactical Pistol 1 class at G4S ITI in Shacklefords Va. I had not heard about this company until a page I follow on facebook mentioned them and I saw that they were in VA. I had been looking everywhere for a 1 day tactical/defensive pistol class in VA that didnt cost $500 or reqire a billion rounds of ammo. G4S offers Tactical Pistol 1 for $166 for civilians ($150 for government workers) and only required 500 rounds of ammunition. I chose this class because it was my first step into a formal defensive pistol training and I did not want to dedicate the time and money to a 2 day course for my first time. The description on the website states that the minimum number of participants for a class to be held is 10 with a max of 12 so I assumed I was going to be in a class amoung 9-11 other people. The class goes from 0800 until about 1700. I arrived about 15 minutes before class and met my instructor Mike. He was a very nice guy from the start. When I got into the classroom there were only 2 other people in there. I quickly learned that we were the only 3 in the class that day. Apperantly, with the ammo shortage, sign ups have declined a bit so they decided not to make those who can find ammo suffer and hold the class anyway. I think this was great. It made it more 1 on 1 at the range so the instructor was able to focus on our oppurtunities more and help us improve. When class started at 0800, Mike came in and we signed in. He went over the range rules and safety and we shot the breeze for a few minutes but then it was straight to the range. The range was great. the first 25 yard was paved assphault with the rest beyond it being gravel. We shot paper and steel which was awesome as most of you know how fun steel is. There is an enclosed building at the range with cold water coolers and equipment in it and the outside has an awning with a couple tables to put your gear on and reload mags at. This was RANGE 2 that we were at. Apperantly RANGE 1 is a covered range for rainy days but we did not see it. Mike did a great job with his instruction and while we burned through our 500~ rounds of ammo, we did not waste it by any means. The website has a list of the things you can expect to cover in this course but we went over some stuff that was not listed which was great such as simulated shooting from a vehicle, shooting from cover, etc. All in all, this was an EXCELLENT course and school. The instructor was very well educated and the facility was nice. The price simply cant be beat. I will definitely be going back for Tactical Pistol 2!
