You know, as of late, I make most of my posts from a crappy little phone with a tiny little screen. I still put forth some effort to ensure that my posts a clear and easily read.

Why do I do that? Well, one, I want you guys to know what I'm saying to you. Also, I want my input to be taken seriously, as we do have serious discussion here.

I don't even text in the "txt" lingo. That just drives me nuts.

SHMIV, Yeah, I think most put forth the effort and some just don't have the facility of expression that others may have. I wouldn't want to stifle their opinions for their lack of grammatical skills.

I note that most here do put forth the effort.

But, then, the VGOF crowd is a classy group, and we do all seem to set reasonable standards for ourselves.

I suspect that many high school students today would read our posts and believe us to be communicating in Victorian English.

I suspect the "grammar Nazis", with their superciliously priggish nattering about the small stuff, may do more damage to good grammar and usage than the truly ignorant, because they leave people with a disaffection for grammatical correctness.

As a general rule I strive to always learn something new and improve myself. Each day is a baby step, but over time it adds up. Grammar is no exception. I'm far from perfect, but much better than I use to be. I expect to only get better with more practice and he helpful guidance of those who are better than I. However, as you note, the general concept of a "grammar Nazi" is not helpful guidance, it's harsh criticism of the error for personal pleasure.

I have the grave misfortune of having a few high school aged relatives on my Facebook....you are correct. Forget grammar, even simple multisyllabic words may very well vanish in Newspeak.
