I have a house in Clarke County Virginia and I have some work that needs to be done ASAP. The job is too much for me to do myself so I'm looking for a recommendations for a general contractor business or remodeling company.
What it is: Bathroom drain pipes are old and have been slow-leaking for a long while (just discovered it). Subfloor has been ruined through rot/mold and needs to be replaced. Pipes need to be replaced. So, it's basically a bath remodel job with plumbing and structural carpentry work.
I've submitted 4 or 5 requests to companies I've found on Angies List and other companies I've found on the web but only 1 has responded, and that one doesn't work west of Loudoun.
I'd like to get this started ASAP. This is the main bathroom for the house and it sucks having it out of commission.
PM me or post here. Thank you all for any suggestions.

Oh man. I just did a similar project at my sisters house a few months ago. I wish that I knew some folks closer to you.
Good luck with your search.

Ah, so its not just me. I've had similar problems with contractors not responding. Try lowe's, you'll pay a little more but their people actually show up.Nemo24 wrote:I've submitted 4 or 5 requests to companies I've found on Angies List and other companies I've found on the web but only 1 has responded, and that one doesn't work west of Loudoun.

Ya know, before I got into the transportation industry, maintenance and repair was my gig. I got out of it because the work was disappearing, and according to my friends who remain in that line of work, the gigs are are dried up worse than when I left. Given that, I can't fathom why contracters can't return a call. Old habits die hard, I guess.

I live nearby, will ask around and respond later. The people I'm sure of who could do it are always busy, but there are others I can check with.

Similar situation here. I have contacted a few individuals regarding some simple home projects, most aren't interested. I suppose this economy is better than we perceive it to be, because people have more work than they need. You just can't throw money at some people these days.

As a rule, the bigger and/or more competent contractors/tradesmen don't want to mess with small jobs and the jake-leg yard-hoppin' woodbutchers are what you've got to choose from on a one-room project. And you WILL generally pay a premium on a small job; whoever does it. Unless, that is, you have some kind of a pre-existing and/or continuing relationship with somebody who does that sort of work.

Thanks for all the replies guys.
My guess is that there just isnt enough profit to make the small jobs worthwhile. On top of that, people who work in NoVA don't seem to want to come over the mountain to Shen Valley. I'm also figuring we just wouldn't pay the jacked up prices they can charge the yuppies in Loudoun and Fairfax. Combine it all and I can understand why the mountains are more than just a geographical wall.
I did finally get one company to call me back (after emailing 7 places).
email sent to SC Tinsley - thanks GTIJohn.
