Fox News is gone...I just learned about Saudi Prince

Post by PhantomPhixer »

I guess I'm a little slow, but somehow this went under my radar back in 2005. Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bought a 5% stake in Fox News back in 2005, and upped it to 7% a few years later. He is the largest shareholder next to Rupert Murdoch. This is the same guy behind the Ground Zero Mosque. Is it any wonder Fox has gone soft? Not that I ever solely listened to Fox, but it was a comfort to think there was at least one news org carrying the banner for Conservatism.

With just the little bit of digging I did, it is apparent he has his fingers in all kinds of social spheres, including a 3% stake in Twitter.

Here are some interview quotes from Alwaleed, from a blog called http://www.shoebat.com, run by a former Muslim Brotherhood dude:
Alwaleed has purchased significant influence at major U.S. Universities and has contributed to CAIR. How does this all work? Well, it was explained by Al-Walid himself. In an article that appeared on Accuracy in Media’s website, Diana West quoted from an interview the Saudi Prince granted to Arab News:

“Arab countries can influence U.S. decision-making ‘if they unite through economic interests, not political,’ (Alwaleed) stressed. ‘We have to be logical and understand that the U.S. administration is subject to U.S. public opinion. We (Arabs) are not so active in this sphere (public opinion). And to bring the decision-maker on your side, you not only have to be active inside the U.S. Congress or the administration but also inside U.S. society.’”

Even the very liberal, Soros-backed Think Progress, reported on bin Talal’s influence over the Fox News Channel. In 2005, during riots in France (and two months after bin Talal acquired 5.46% of Newscorp.), the banner being run on Fox said, “Muslim riots.” Think Progress quoted bin Talal as saying the following:

“I picked up the phone and called Murdoch… (and told him) these are not Muslim riots, these are riots out of poverty. Within 30 minutes, the title was changed from Muslim riots to civil riots.”
No wonder O'Reilly and Megan Kelly are soft on gay marriage, no wonder Hannity and the others didn't play hardball during the run-up to the election. They've been compromised. And now, I sound like a conspiracy theorist.

I don't find it surprising. I thought this was just a satire at first, but I found this link to Forbes:

http://www.forbes.com/profile/prince-al ... al-alsaud/

He also owns shares in Citicorp, hotels, ETC.

So go buy some FOX stock so you can call them up and let them know you are a stock holder.

Fox News is only untrustworthy because you find out a Saudi prince has the second loudest voice there?

Whatever man. :hysterical:

It was always crap read by crappy people(o' Reilly, Hannity etc). Internet is best for news anyway.

Tinfoil hat time. Does anyone else find it a bit contradictory that Fox would appease a Muzzy investor by supporting gay marriage when the Arabs impose the death penalty on gays?

I'm with FiremanBob on this. Plus, I see Islam challenged on a daily basis on Fox.

Not that they're not all biased:

Breaking News: **Building Fire**
1. MSNBC says the fire is may have been deliberately set and possibly the result of building management using non-union electricians. Queue SEIU commercial.
2. CNN says there was a fire and may be related to a labor dispute. Queue Disney Cruise ad.
3. Fox says the fire was set by the union. Queue prostate treatment spot.
4. RT says the US is collapsing because we can't even keep our buildings from burning and because our firefighters are actually undercover DHS agents and the fire trucks are really disguised MRAPs.

In the end, there may have actually been a fire. Watching without critical thinking may be worse than being uninformed.

Okay, I've gotta ask....on what planet would a SAUDI Prince cause Fox News to go "soft" on gay marriage? Don't they still kill people for that stuff over there?
