Cyprus bank runs

Post by TacticalMom »

I am sure all of you have heard about this.

But just in case you have not. They instituted "haircuts" on the "Cypriots" where they were not allowed to withdraw their money from the banks, and those with a certain amount or over would be noticing 20 to 30% removed from forcibly from them.

People in line waiting to withdraw money if they can so they can live.

Anyone think it is going to come here to America? Anyone think that they are going to try to do that to us as well?

Can you imagine people lined up to get any money they can so that they can eat?

Keep your eyes open. Situ awareness and all that.

I would like to think that it couldn't happen here, but I have to agree with you Tacticalmom.

US has flooded the world with dollars, and the others slowly came to the realization that is not a good thing.

As far as there being a run on the banks in the US, I'm not sure that would happen again. Cyprus doesn't have a FDIC program like we do here.

As far as the government imposing a "tax" (theft) on savings accounts, I wouldn't put anything past them.

Once we have been disarmed, then we will be looted. Until that time, they'll have to wait and watch what unfolds in the U.K.

By the way, Americans have approximately $250 Billion in 401k accounts. Sleep tight.

All European banks have something like FDIC. But the capitalization of that fund is ... like FCKDICK, like 2% of total deposits. Who runs faster runs better.
And, dont use the safety box too...

This.

It's amazing to me how many people think of our various governmental entities as benevolent. I really believe that if the federal government, especially, did not have to fear the prospect of millions of armed malcontents in the streets, we'd be a lot closer to the EU situation than the sheeple would like to believe. And, although I used to laugh at conspiracy theorists, seeing the militarization of police forces and agencies like DHS over the past decade has made me a believer in the idea that a crackdown is coming. OFC, I also used to think that Republicans were different, but then I saw clowns like McCain (whose service I deeply respect), Graham, McConnell, Boehner, et al., and I realized that although the spots may be different, they're all still leopards -- and just as dangerous.

Can't remember where I read an article. But the gist is that a lot of Europeans are moving their funds over here, because, "they think that it could never happen here, their money is more safe here, harder to believe it will happen here." I will have to find that article if I can again.

I was talking with husband, and while Cyprus seems to be doing things the orderly (long orderly queues, and no violence etc.) way. Here in America. We doubt it would go down so orderly as it is in Cyprus. He/we said/agree that riots, and armed civil war is more likely.

However, we could be wrong. We could just roll over and take it as a country. Somehow I doubt that happening though.

For once I'm going to be very blunt, it would be a fatal mistake on their part to touch the money in my account.

I've said it before I am unfailingly kind to my friends, and unimaginably merciless to my enemies.

Can't the IRS administratively (i.e. without a judge) seize anything they want anyway? Not an expert on this, but it seems with our M.C. Escher inspired tax code anyone can run afoul of them without knowing it.

I have a certain set of skills that tell me that we're in for another crash... sooooooonnn....

Prepare yourself. They have used the Fed for 5-6 years to hold up the economy, but this next round? Not so much.

Prep people...PREP!
