I Want One - New German .30 Machine Gun

Post by Greybeard »

The New German Machine Gun

Very impressive and stable platform. It can be fired from virtually any position including standing. Water apparently doesn't affect it at all.

Virtually no muzzle rise with a 7.62 round. Noticed almost no recoil as well.

I would sure hate to be "down range" facing these weapons.

I am astounded at the ease in changing the barrels as well as the very low recoil forces it has.

Very impressive.

Not very encouraging, given that I will NEVER be permitted to utilize its power, but it is becoming more likely that it is to be used against free citizens in this country at some point.

Quick clip of a MG42 in there. Awesome!

I want the Knight's Armament Stoner LMG though.

Am I the lone duck that isn't impressed? I'd take that MG42 over it any day of the week.

As a collectors item? Sure. To carry into modern combat? No way.

Why? Now don't just tell me this or that, please put this in context of the roll it was made for. Pinning down troops while your platoon maneuvers around. Also holding defensive locations. Please don't give reasons like poor for room clearing. I know you wouldn't go there but just using it as an extreme example.

Weight, ease of setting up and taking down, and ergonomics come to mind. Also the ability to mount your optics and an IR laser and light for use with your night vision. Remember you're gonna be lugging that around the mountains of Afghanistan or some urban city around the clock and WWII tech isn't up for the job.

Fair points though I think most could easily be dealt with. I do so much like the higher rate of firing with the MG442. Two bad there isn't two automatic settings. The ability to switch between 500 rpm and 900 could be very useful.
