Oh - I read the topic title and thought you wanted to sell them and I was checking for a price. lol :)

Let us know how it goes!

An itemized list of purchases and what pieces and parts you build into them would be cool, I think. I would like to start building one, but not sure what all the part requirements are.

Just checked and you can get a complete upper for less than $500. Lower and other things needed just under $300.

Wonder how much you could save by building your own upper.

Not much to save on building your own upper. I would just buy one! JSE is still running a good deal on a complete upper with bolt carrier group for 375. Check it out! http://www.jsesurplus.com/custom16inch1 ... ecial.aspx

So that means you could put together an AR for less than $700 with a moly barrel. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Shoveling dirt is a lot cheaper, just not as much fun.

BTW, only the Stripped AR-15 Lower Receiver will require you to obtain it from a
FFL dealer. Everything else can be purchased online.

As for a cost savings, you might save a few bucks. For me personally, the Rock River AR-15 stripped
cost me $219.95 from the Loudoun Guns Store. From Rock River it is $170, but you need an FFL.
Although in my case, cost savings wasn't the driving factor. I just wanted to see if I had the aptitude to
build my own gun from the ground up. Or I should say, Assemble my own gun.

You can build it pretty cheap I did my last one for 642.48.

Complete upper (375) and Double Star Lower Parts Kit (65). Shipping to my home = 23.07

LAR Lower Receiver (95). Shipping to FFL = 11.96

FFL Transfer fee = 17.50

Collapsible Stock from Sportsmans Guide = 54.95

Total build = 642.48
I have and will continue to stand ready to engage and destroy the enemy (Islamic terrorists) on their own turf so my children can be free and unafraid.

Thanks, Ty... Suffice it say that an AR build is now on my list.

Btw, is it as easy for other calibers too - something a little bigger maybe? I'd like another semi-auto hi-cap AR type that packs a little heavier punch and I do like to build stuff.

DK, You can build a some larger caliber AR types but the price is more. I just saw a 308 upper and stripped lower that I am thinking about putting together.

This would be considered an AR-10

Complete upper with BCG 24" SS Bull - 804 (Brownells)
Stripped Lower - 265 (JSE Surplus)
Lower Parts Kit - 86 (Brownells)
Collapsible Stock - (Not sure yet what kind you can use)

But you get the idea on price.

I just picked up a couple of Stag lowers at the VB gun show this weekend for $110 each.

I'm doing my research right now for build-outs. Anyone have any experience with:

http://www.ar15-kits.com/
http://www.model1sales.com/
http://www.m-aparts.com/
http://www.del-ton.com/

?

They all look comparable from a price standpoint. I'm definitely doing one in 556 and I think I want to do the other in 6.5 Grendel.

Would I be able to drop a 6.8 Rem bolt/carrier/barrel assembly right on top of a complete lower? Could I do this interchangeably between all the weapons? Build two complete lowers and then swap uppers when the mood (or ammo supply) hits me?

From my time researching parts and companies back when I was trying to build an AR, all those sites, as I learned, provided working platforms for recreational use only. If you want a hard use, home defense, life on the line AR, I've found that it's best to go with the big names with bigger prices.
