reasons why ammo and ar type riffles so scarce??

Post by mackaroni »

Don't mean to sound stupid but what exactly is the reason for the extremely low amount of ammo and ar type firearms. I figured low amounts of 30 rd clips, 223 and ammo having to do with the assault type weapons and ar type rifles as normal panic buying when gun ban talk get back in the news but seems like ALL ammo is scarce and why isnt the AR type manufacturers running the factories around the close to meet demand and make some money. if anybody has any good info on that i would be really interested

I know ARs are hard to come by because there are hundreds of new companies making them, but still only a few manufacturers making a lot of the parts. The back log on lowers has pretty much caught up, but BCGs are still in short supply. Of course the surges in demand are a big part of it too. As long as the demand stays high, the only way the supply will catch up is if we get some new large manufacturers who actually forge/machine their own parts. Colt doesn't even make most of their own parts anymore.

I wouldn't expect anyone to make that large of an investment given the current political situation. If the new bans and restrictions are all defeated, and no civil war or revolution breaks out, I would imagine in a year or two the market will be flooded with used once, or "like new" ARs.

Not a stupid question at all.

Fear of [legislation, confiscation, 2A repeal, etc] has driven demand to record levels. When the AR's inventory became tough, people grabbed what they could. Couple that with distrust of the government (founded or not), tin-foil conspiracies and the like, and you have the makings of a lucrative market firearms environment.

The two answers above are nail on head.

When you used to go into Wal-mart, and saw the ammo on the shelf, you would think "Pre-Newtown", "well... I'll get some when I need it."

Now?

Now folks are carrying "Ammo cash" around so that when they FIND ANYTHING THEY OWN! They buy it! (raises hand) I'm guilty too! I see something I could use, and buy it. Even if I don't need it.

However, I ain't paying "GOUGER" prices for it. But if it's reasonable, I'm getting it. Yes, I already HAVE stuff, but better to HAVE IT, and NOT NEED IT than vice versa. Yes?

If you can't get what you WANT, you select an alternative. No AR ammo, better make sure my pistol has something to eat.

The factories are working around the clock, but _NO ONE_ is adding machines. This is a short term spike in demand, and there will be a BigA** lul in demand on the other side.

Precisely. Whatever happens, when this deal runs it's course, (1) everybody in the world will be stocked up on ammo, and (2) if they ban or control, there'll be no market for increased capacity.

If you are near or can get to Columbia SC, you can walk in to Palmetto State Armory and buy a 5.56 for 799.00 + tax. One per customer per day.
