mamabearCali, you can own one even better suited to American roads (not as tall, lower center of gravity, similar protection against small arms fire), you just need to know where to look:

You just have to ask yourself, is he telling you the truth based on knowledge and experience or spreading internet myths?

The Commies have taken over. I do believe Ol' Buckethead is looking for a way to skirt the 22nd amendment and install himself, Hugo Chavez-style, as dick-tater for life. The fact that DHS is buying up ammo and armament in these quantities only lends credence to the so-called paranoia. Is it really paranoia, or is the reality of what we are seeing starting to overtake it?

Kruschev said once that (paraphrasing) Communism will overtake America and we won't recognize it until it is too late. Is it too late? I hope and pray that it isn't. :packin:

That would be highly foolish of him. There are many patriots out there that would not put up with that sort of nonsense.

Besides I don't think he really likes the job itself, just the perks. I think he is a lazy man that wants to do as little work as possible in office, and would like to spend the rest of his life working on his golf game. I say we let him.

Sen Kaine defends ammo purchases and denies MRAP purchase. His response to my inquiry is below for your individual appraisal.

I don't see the ammo purchases as a big deal given the number of "agents" every agency under the sun has. Now, whether we really *need* SWAT teams to defend the Red Cockaded Woodpecker or not is another question. The MRAP purchase story has been overblown from the beginning.

I didn't realize there are 65,000 agents/officers under the DHS umbrella. The ammo thing sounds right on track... Not including their current supply, that is only 1385 rounds per agent per year. Considering I used 726 rounds in 4 hours on Saturday just screwing around at the local range... the numbers don't seem unreasonable. But that MRAP's... yea, I wish I could let you know what I really think... but I'd probably get fired. LOL

Still making excuses, eh? Forget how many rounds you think an agent should fire a year and instead DHS has provided the ACTUAL number of rounds those 65,000 agents do fire. It's 15M, not 150M. Try again.

After 9/11 Congress passed a few bills that provided $$$ for LE to purchase many things (computers, vechicles, etc). My point is that it was almost a blank check to all LE across the country. Yes, even into the backwoods of say WY.

Similar light AP have been on Richmond streets for over 6 years. OK, not on the streets daily, however, I have seen them on 2 occasions.

So, while I see your view, what is news here?

Those are not tanks. The United States only runs one tank. It's called the M1 Abrams. That is like the video of the police officer holding the Mac 10 or whatever it was and calling it a AK or whatever it was. Don't confuse my beloved M1 with any of those slacker vehicles.

The stock image is a Maxpro, however the video on the gateway pundit page, I'm not sure. At first I thought it might have been a modified RG-31, but the profile isn't the same, so the jury is still out on that one. Towards the end of Iraq the military was buying so many of them up I lost track of all their names and nomenclatures. I had a JERRV my second tour. Good truck.

No excuses... just explanations. If I say something other than what has been released by the PIO I can get in serious trouble.

That said, with a little research of public record, someone other than me should be able to find a few occasions where they have contradicted themselves.

Now the FBI?
WND has uncovered plans by the FBI to spend up to $100 million over five years on millions of rounds for its machine guns and pistols.

According to a solicitation revised and released March 25 that WND discovered during routine database research, the FBI is gathering this ammo “to be carried and fired [by FBI Special Agents] in defense of life” as well as for training purposes.

The ammunition includes a combination of field-ready Glock 9mm rounds as well as reduced-lead training ammo. Weapons specifically listed in the Statement of Work, or SOW, are Glock Model 17, Glock Model 19, Glock Model 26, SIG Sauer P226, SIG Sauer P228, Heckler and Koch MP5 9mm submachine gun (K, A2, A3, SF and SD versions).

Has there been any info on this that doesn't trace back to Alex Jones as a source?

Thanks!

Where in the article does it mention Alex Jones as a source?

I followed the trail back like this:

gatewaypundit
modernsurvivalblog
defenseprocurementnews

The article there says that 2,717 MRAPS are getting a new chasis under an army contract.
http://www.defenseprocurementnews.com/2 ... s-release/

"
LISLE, Ill., March 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Navistar Defense, LLC received an award to conduct the installation work associated with its January order to upgrade 2,717 International® MaxxPro® Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles with a new vehicle chassis. The $21 million contract from the U.S. Army Contracting Command is just one of Navistar’s many reset offerings aimed at revitalizing existing defense assets for future mission."

The MRAP video says that the one seen there is responsible for New Mexico and Texas. Also, that DHS has 16 MRAPS.

Please, find me a link from somewhere that says they are going to DHS under contract. I am concerned, but I think Jones is a bit rabid to be an authoritative source.

These are IDIQ (indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity), not orders. Over five years, the FBI RFQ states that the minimum purchase will be $25m (over five years, that's $5m per year). The maximum is set also at $100m, but they are always set high...whether for computers, bullets, you name it.

I mean, no one denies that the FBI needs bullets, right?

If a contract is a really good deal, some other agencies may even be able to purchase against the contract, which is why they set high maximums.

I am not a fan of our "big government", but I have also sold plenty to them over the years, and this is nothing to get panties in a wad about. This is not a purchase order, but an open-ended contract solicitation.

As for the MRAPS....DHS has 16 of them, not 2700. I don't know where the 2700 came from (have heard mixed things....army? marines?), but I admit getting sucked into that one too, only to get pissed to find out I've been misled.

Stay calm and verify. :)
