First Open Carry Today

Post by allingeneral »

Well, I did it...today was my first open carry. I sat in the dentist's chair and got a root canal. I saw him glance at it a couple of times, but he didn't say anything. Stopped by Home Depot off 95 in F'burg for a quick look at some plywood. Went to Wal-mart in Ferry Farm to get prescriptions filled, then Burger King for a fine sit-down meal. Back to Wal-mart to pick up prescriptions. While checking out at Wal-mart, two kids and a mom in front of me, the kids asked their mom to find out if that was a gun I had. I smiled at them, nodded and said yes. Then the kids got their mom to ask me if I was a "Police man". I told them No, I'm a law-abiding citizen - when you turn 18 you can have one too. One of the little boys told me he wants one and that he wants to get a pocket knife too! lol That was the funniest thing to hear a 5/6 year old say :hysterical: hehe

Oh yeah - I stopped by the courthouse, locked things up for a moment and dropped off my CHP and DD214 as well!

Yeah, it was alright :) Forgot to mention the two National Guard guys (I assume) that I passed in Wal-mart. They were in their cammies and after they passed me, I heard one of them say "That dude's got a Piece in Wal-mart. What the hell does he need that in Wal-mart for? *chuckle*"

My wife thinks I'm silly too - oh well. :)

Haha, well the lady at Wal-mart all but did that! She said - in a very loud voice - "SIR, IS THAT A GUN" and everyone looked at me...my heart skipped a beat, but it worked out alright. It's strange really...carrying a gun - I almost feel like I'm doing something wrong! :ak47:

 close as I could get to a high five. I think we notice people looking more then they look. That is part of the reason I keep it concealed or reasonably concealed.

Will you eventually get a concealed permit! For your sake and your family, I hope so because there will be a lot of people taunting and challenging you! Some people just love to try and pull other people's cork.....

Good luck and congrats!

Yes, I put my paperwork in for my CHP last week. Hopefully, I'll have it back in the next week or so.

As for people pulling my chain...I need some practice with that anyway...I consider it a challenge :)

Out of curiosity, what's the protocol for this?

I mean, should we (as the lawfully armed citizen) act defensively? Not in a sense of "taking offense" but in order to improve the relationship of lawful carriers to bleating sheep... Should we move to protect them from whoever the bad person is that they see with a gun?

I don't know whether that would be too OTT.

It happened about 3 years ago at a local store. It was during hunting season and had on my bibs. When I reached for my wallet I heard "He's got a gun" in a Jersey accent. Before anyone jumps my case for 'profiling yankees' I have quit a few friends from jersey. Any way my gun must have showed when I pulled back my bibs to get to my wallet. I looked around to try to find the 'threat' and everyone was looking at me. The clerk just laughed and told the person that he felt safer with me in the store with my gun. Other than that the only other comments I have gotton are "What you totin'. One old guy asked me that and told him a .45. He replied ",45mm ?" :hysterical: :hysterical:

I have been posting at OCDO for awhile now. Here's my "First Open Carry" post there: http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/forum54/22942.html

I even bought some ad space at the top of the OCDO forum for my store AIG Tactical Supply.

My Wife and I stopped at the old EastCoast in Falmouth, VA on the way to a Labor Day dinner at friends and were light-heartedly arguing about dinner side dishes and the cashier was having fun with us when the second cashier who did see my 45 said, " I always agree with the guy with the gun." Needless to say the first argument I ever won with my Wife.

congrats on the open carry, it does take a littel but of getting used to, but before you know it, all is well and normal...

and that lady was right...always agree with the guy with the gun
Be particular, and be vigilant, as the enemy will only attack on two occasions:
When you're ready or when you're not ready.

Also never forget, that everyone who shows up, is not necessarily there to help.
