Would you attend a "Prepper" show, or convention?
I was thinking this morning, if they overlapped certain firearms, electronics, camping/rv, and fishing dealers into one area, had some "panel groups" and/or classes...
You could call it a "Prepper Convention", run it for three days, and it would go off like gang-busters... However, an LDS'r I worked with said "yeah, but some preppers don't wanna be associated for fear of being put on a list".
My thoughts? We're ALREADY on "lists"! Thinking otherwise is NAIVE!
But it's a good question. Would you attend?

Hmmm.. maybe if you ran an "Natural Disaster Prep Expo", and there just happened to be a "Home Defense Expo" immediately adjacent...or maybe sold tickets for both at the same door?
The fact that they both honor the other's admission is entirely coincidental.
I'd certainly consider attending.

Hell yes. Make it fun, call it a Zombie Apocalypse show, and maybe some of the stigma (and real nut jobs) won't be there.

I was gonna go to the last one that was had in NC but decided it wasn't worth the 6 hour drive.

Yeah, I'd probably check it out if it was local; and on the bus line. Wouldn't want to drive and have to deal with parking.

Re: Would you attend a "Prepper" show, or convention?
YES, I would attend if it were a local event. If there were other points of interest incorporated , maybe Camping for a couple of days...Survival Talks or Training or Some kind of Shooting. It's alot that could be planned to make it really interesting and fun . I have seen a couple of the "Prepping" Shows...Some are very interesting and somewhat informative...Never hurts to be a little prepared ! I guess my wife and I are Preppers by nature...We collect and own a "FEW" firearms and a massive hoard of ammo , knives , axes and other implements of distruction ! At least 60 days of food and water. We are more prepared than some , not as prepared as some !

Re: Would you attend a "Prepper" show, or convention?
The first question is "where is it"?
If it is not local, the odds of me going are slim to none.
The next question, does it have to be a Prepers conversion. I just see this pulling in the nuts.
A "Natural Disaster Prep Expo" would be better. Set it up for the basics. Survive for 14 days without power or fresh water.

Not sure if the OP's intent is to get preppers to go to a show designed for them, or to get the general public to open their eyes about starting down the path towards some level of self-reliance.RWBlue01 wrote:The first question is "where is it"?

If the former this would be good. If the latter you'd have to change the content to surviving without your morning Starbucks.
I say this because the general public doesn't think about surviving 14 days without power or fresh water (until they're hit with Sandy). My wife saw a few of those shows and thought they were crazy to have a year's worth of food and all that stuff. I said "ok, but remember when that hurricane came through last year and we were out of power for a few days? We had a hurricane AND an earthquake in one year and we felt unprepared for it. Remember a few months back when sales weren't as good as we thought they would be?" She said that makes sense and now we have more supplies than I would have thought I'd be able to get away with and when I introduce new products to her as an idea of what to get next (I'm eyeing a solar oven) I get more "that's pretty cool" and none of the "you're crazy".
Once you ease someone into putting a little bit back, it's amazing how fast it grows like a snowball going down a mountain.
I think experienced preppers will find the specific information that they're looking for and may not necessarily go to your event. If you want your event to be successful, you need bodies to show up and the biggest demographic in any hobby/way of life/whatever event is the newbie.

My wife and I were just talking a out this. We'd be tempted if it were close. I find the TV Prepper show funny but do pick up some ideas.

Prepping is not a topic of interest to me, but if there was an event with pricing and availability similar to that of a gun show (read LOCAL and CHEAP), I'd attend and bring some friends & family. Sounds like a good time. Whoever is maintaining the "lists" might be interested in the vendors, but how much trouble would they go to for the attendees?

George
If change is inevitable, why aren't we prepared for it?

What I was thinking is more socially acceptable and less mad max.
Or to put it a different way, when your insuance company tells you they will attend and these are the things you should hoard....maybe the novice will listen.

It is less about the stuff and more about knowledge. And at least for me, balancing life with prep. At this point life is getting in the way of being in shape and ....

If it was local to Richmond, I'd have a table set up there to advertise.

Re: Would you attend a "Prepper" show, or convention?
Thanks...
Yeah, i'm not talking about anything more than all those "Cool Camping" products, and such under one roof with Disaster experts advising on subjects such as "How to contain, and purify water when the lines are down."
Nothing "Dale Gribble" (AKA "King of the Hill"), but geared more to campers, preppers, and disaster experienced folk.
Lemme tell ya'... Battery operated fans were a BLESSING more than once when we had a hurricane about a year ago that kept the power out for a week!
