Running threaded barrels "just because"

Ive been eyeing a threaded barrel for my M&P for a while now. I dont own a suppressor or compensator or anything like that. I just really love the look of an m&p with a weapon light and threaded barrel. I do plan on getting a suppressor down the road (possibly next tax season if there will still be such a thing). My question is this. Does anyone else here run threaded barrels just for aesthetics? Some have said the small amount of added length helps with ballistics but I call BS on that.

I don't think the extra length provides any substntial improvement in ballistics. I think there's an issue with carrying if you do not have a chp, however.

interesting. I have a chp so thats no problem but i have never heard about an issue open carrying with a threaded barrel. Why do you think that would be an issue?

Just for looks? No. I do have them for suppressors though. They do look cool with knurled thread protecters on them. If you carry the gun, you may find that not all holsters are friendly to an extended/threaded barrel.

A longer barrel will give you more velocity, but it's not much. Usually the threaded barrels are just the next size up with threads (e.g. a threaded G19 barrel is about the same length as a non-threaded G17).

well im a holster maker so getting a holster that accepts it wouldnt be an issue haha. Yea like i said, they do add a "sexy" factor and I dont think i would get one if i NEVER intended on owning a suppressor but since i do plan to get a suppressor in the future I may go ahead and get a Gemtech TB whenever i can find one again and then ill jsut have a sexy gun until i get my supppressor haha.

If you want a challenge, design a leg/chest holster that works with the suppressor attached!

You are correct, but a CHP negates that limitation.

IANAL but it sounds to me like aftermarket barrels would not be considered "...designed by the manufacturer..." as specified in § 18.2-287.4.
