Ruger 10 22 Takedown

Post by Snakester »

My wife has been talking about The Ruger 10 22 Takedown with Backpack Carrying Case. She has been asking me questions about it , how it shoots and ease of taking apart. I would like to hear any thoughts or suggestions about the rifle. Especially pros and cons . We looked at the Henry Survival Takedown , but she likes the Ruger better. Thanks for any info!

I have one, shot about 1K rounds so far.
Really cool, it holds zero, but it have one small problem I found others have too:

I got some sanding sponge and remove the swelling, now it is better than it was new. I understand that is the first time when something like this was created, so it have the childhood issues.
I highly recommend one, especially because you can conceal it.
Cons so far: It does not have a sling mount. I put a cheap Leapers red dot, and daughter plinks some 200 rounds each time with it. Santa came today with

which I haven't tested yet, but to be able to dial from 50 to 175 sounds nice!

I have one. I likes it a lot. Get one. Done.

Oh, and it is FAR less finicky about ammo than the Henry.

Got an email early this morning from my gun dealer ...thought the Ruger 10/22 Takedown that my wife ordered came in. WRONG !!! Went on to say that it didn't come in and does not know when to expect it ! I called him and told him to keep it on order , that we wanted it . Then he asked if I was interested in a used Ruger 10/22 Carbine w/black stock, SS barrel and previous owner said it has never been fired ! He took it on trade yesterday and said I can have it for $135.00 Cash. I told him I was on the way...It is still in the box and looks great . Has the trigger lock , scope rail and a Ruger carrying case! Great Deal !!! Now I need about $400.00 worth of accessories !

I've been looking for a Take Down for a Few months now, Nobody seems to have much of anything in stock let alone TD's -- Hopefully it'll die down in a few months and the shelfs with get Re-Stocked. I have an Older 10/22 from when I was a Kid growing up in the 70's - It's been a hellva a rifle for close to 40 years now.

Ruger is really backed up, and 10/22s are selling in the online classifieds at big premiums. A used one under $150 is a screaming bargain.

About the only bargains left in the market are single-shots. Even flintlocks seem to be selling fast due to popularity with the TEOTWAWKI market. (In long term SHTF, you can make black powder DIY but modern powder and primers demand industrial processes.)

I just spent months looking for a 10/22 Takedown for SWMBO - she wanted it for her birthday. They were hard enough to find in October last year, so I figured that more might pop up around the holidays...

Yeah...not so much.

I ended up buying one off of Gunbroker and it's sitting at the FFL waiting for pickup. Paid a premium to be sure, but much less than the $600+ some of those yahoos are asking for.

Now if I were looking for BX-25 magazines, that's a completely different level of insanity right there!

Got an email today from my Gun Dealer Buddy....Still nothing from Ruger about my 10/22 Take Down...They make no comment at all.

Yes , I did get a great deal on the used 10/22....I added a Bushnell Scope and purchased 4 BX25 Mags. I have shot about 2500 rds. through it and it shoots great with no issues at all. This Spring I may take it G-Hog Hunting some and give my Henry .17 HMR a rest.

When you do finally get it, order a Kidd "trigger job" kit. It makes all the difference in the world. Lighter pull with a break that is extremely nice and without spending a ton. Around $100 if memory serves me.

PSA - I have no financial interest in Kidd nor am I connected to them in anyway.

:machinegun: 10 weeks and Last night I finally got the email I have been waiting for ! 10/22 Take Down finally came in. Picked it up first thing this morning. My Gun Dealer Buddy has a great 50 yard range at his house so right after breakfast at Cracker Barrel we put it through the test. We shot 50 rds. cleaned and oiled it and shot another 250 rds. You can really run through the ammo with those BX25 Mags. but it sure makes it a lot of fun. The Take Down Carry Bag included will make it easy to take to the range. The wife and I are going shooting tomorrow afternoon and really break her in.

Nice. The Ruger 10/22 Take Down model is on my short list. One of the few "modern" firearms I'm actually interested in buying.

As others have said, great deal on that used 10/22 as well.

Enjoy them both.

Didn't know if your dealer called, but Dicks Sporting Goods at Winterpock has 3 of the 10/22 takedowns in stock if anyone else is looking for one. Think they were $360
