question about storing a gun someplace other than house

Hello, i just recently purchased my first handgun at the gunshow in richmond, and due to certain circumstances, I'm not able to keep the handgun at the house at this time. I was wondering if anyone knew a cheap place to store the gun at a reasonable price. I live within 5 minutes from Sharpshooters in lorton and they dont offer gun lockers and I would be going there. Does anyone have any info of where I could store it ? Thanks

Now there's putting the cart before the horse. Did you know this was going to be an issue before purchasing?

Is this going to be a handgun that will be your carry weapon? If so that takes care of the majority of the day. If not, maybe you can get a locked box for your vehicle?

The Lockable Storage Box is the best solution...You will have a lot of options, from a small gun safe to just a steel lockable box. I have a friend who carries all the time but now his job sends him many places that have gun restrictions. He bought a steel tool box (12"x12"x36") very heavy duty . We also did some fabricating so he can install it in the bed and Pad Lock it in place .Very easy to install and remove. Works great for him !

You could just as easy buy a security box from Lowe's and bolt it in the trunk of your car.

actually I work as a gov contractor on a base so the car is a no can do. i wont be carrying it either, just will be using it to shoot at the range

I had the exact situation a few years back. I worked on several Military Bases and many times we had unannounced vehicle searches. They always claimed they were looking for drugs...Then one day they found a kids toy cap pistol and holster under the car seat of one of my workers. You would have thought they found a bazooka . It took us a week to get this cleared up . I understand your situation.

I'm not sure what bases you guys are going to, but I transport weapons on Marine Corps and Army bases all the time. The gun needs to be locked in a case or gun safe, separate from the ammo and out of reach of the driver. I have a small gun safe I keep bolted to the body of my vehicle in the trunk, and the mags with the ammo get locked in the clove box.

Long term a bank security/safe deposit box works as long as there is no ammo.

What am I missing? Who said anything about carrying on base? I said transporting. What do you think people do who are active duty, live on base and own weapons do?
