When I was just a pup, they used to strap Timex wristwatches onto the bottom end of outboard motors and buzz ariound in the water. When they took them back out of the water, John Cameron Swayze would show the watch still working and say " It takes a licking and keeps on ticking." (You see, back then (pre-digital), watches actually had clockwork in them and actually did tick.) It was one of those 1950s-1960s advertising guidelines that became part of the popular culture; like "Brylcreme - a little dab'll do ya".

In the 1950s, Swayze lived about a mile from me, on the water in Shore Acres, a neighborhood in Old Greenwich, CT. My dad used to ride the train into NYC with him every morning.

Don't know about you, Palladin, but since I turned 50 I haven't met ANYBODY that was old.
