Not at all. We bought in bulk and will have plenty to carry us through the shortage. The last .22lr order I got was 15k rounds, which should last awhile...particularly since I was adding it to several thousand I already had since I was "getting low."

If stored properly ammo will last for a long, long time (practically your lifetime). Thus, if you know you're going to use it and the price is only going to go up, why not buy as much as you can afford and it will be there when you get around to it?

Oh no, I'm FINE on other calibers, but I shoot the sh't outta .22LR...

NOW! I bought the last two boxes of .45 AUTO 185 grain FMJ from the Wal-mart on Parham, and Rt 1...

Greentop sold 100 boxes of the 500 pack .22 LR in less than 7 hours... I found .22 LONG, which I can use in my single shots, and .22 revolver without issues. I just wanted some .22LR... They had a few cases of the Federal FMJ 9mm for $20 a pop, limit 1 per customer... bring a buncha folks.

You know? For the kids. They love the .22's, and 9mm's.

Well this certainly won't help the situation:

http://www.infowars.com/dhs-purchases-2 ... mmunition/
The Department of Homeland Security is set to purchase a further 21.6 million rounds of ammunition to add to the 1.6 billion bullets it has already obtained over the course of the last 10 months alone, figures which have stoked concerns that the federal agency is preparing for civil unrest.

I think this is their master plan to cause the ammo shortage. Why I ask does DHS need that many rounds? I think it is because they were directed to by the Administration. And as we read earlier the civilian population is third in line after the military and the Feds.

15k rounds of any caliber would last me over a dozen lifetimes, couldn't justify the expense and storage space.

I'll just wait this out and buy a 500 rounds to last me for the next 10 years lol.

DB, yes... yes you SHOULD buy it, if it's still available.

I shoot about 500 rounds in one outing of .22 LR. Between two rifles, and 2 pistols, that's not alot...

Good as any bulk ammo. They use to be the "bees knees' (pun intended) back in the day.

I just read this on a tractor forum- it isn't just gun forums where people are concerned. Take it for what it is- it sounds legitimate, and depressing, so it must be true.

As of more than a week ago-

Gun Industry Update.
to follow will be several IMPORTANT Info updates about the status of the
gun industry currently, followed by an INVENTORY UPDATE: We traveled to
Texas for Industry meetings concerning the shortages, here's what we were
told.

Smith & Wesson-is running at Full capacity making 300+ guns/day-mainly M&P
pistols. They are unable to produce any more guns to help with the
shortages.

RUGER: Plans to increase from 75% to 100% in the next 90 days.

FNH: Moving from 50% production to 75% by Feb 1st and 100% by March 1.
Remington-Maxed out!

Armalite: Maxed out.

DPMS: Can't get enough parts to produce any more product.

COLT: Production runs increasing weekly...bottle necked by Bolt carrier's.

LWRC:Making only black guns, running at full capacity...can't get enough gun
quality steel to make barrels.

Springfield Armory: Only company who can meet demand but are running 30-45
days behind.

AMMO: Every caliber is now Allocated! We are looking at a nation wide
shortage of all calibers over the next 9 months. All plants are producing as
much ammo as possible w/ of 1 BILLION rounds produced weekly. Most is
military followed by L.E. and civilians are third in line.

MAGPUL is behind 1 MILLION mags, do not expect any large quantities of
magpul anytime soon.

RELOADERS... ALL Remington, Winchester, CCI & Federal primers are going to
ammo FIRST. There are no extra's for reloading purposes... it could be 6-9
months before things get caught up. Sorry for the bleak news, but now we
know what to expect in the coming months. Stay tuned, we'll keep you
posted..."

Unbelievable, yet true. I only hope DHS isn't stocking up to crack down on "homegrown terrorists" as they are now describing anyone who doesn't agree with a Federalized, central authority, Socialist United States. My children deserve a better future than our tax dollars being used to stockpile ammunition and arms to "deal with" anyone who doesn't agree with their agenda.

DO NOT HATE ME CUZ' AH'M BEAUTIFUL!

Hate me because I got the LAST DAMNED BOX OF .22LR SEMI AUTO AMMO IN RICHMOND!!!!

I have been to 7 Wal-marts, 3 gunshops, and a pawn shop...

Decided to go to the Chester Wal-mart on a whim... A fellow enthusiast was so enamored with the 12 ga hunting ammo... he did not see the last box of Federal 325 rounds Semi-auto .22LR....

As the wallyclerk came over, I called it, got it, he was happy to get his 12ga, I was calm, cool, collected... till I got to the vehicle, and couldn't stop smiling, and laughing...

For $15... Including tax.... This crazy times for ammo, magazines, and firearms ain't stopping... and for $15? You thought I had hit the lottery!
MADE MY DAY! WHOO-HOO!

Dominion Outdoors in Fishersville got a nice shipment of CCI 22LR HP. When I was there, they had quite a bit. Who knows how long that will stay around? I already wish that I had bought more.

When I was in Seattle a good fellow helped out all the forum members with free reloading classes. He would show you how to load, charged for supplies for the class, 1 on 1 and you could use his equipment. He was smart about it, after he got you set up and showed you a couple, he'd pour his powder back out and pocketed any cartridges he made, never gave you a single cartridge, you had to make every single one yourself. Being a good teacher he watched you like a hawk and made sure you didn't screw anything up. But he would never reload for you. He checked your work frequently, helped you set everything up correctly. The forum members kept a pot of free brass donations for the newbies and once we became brass hounds we'd pay it forward. He even swapped your dirty brass for clean. You just had to pay for the materials used in class or have some less common brass to trade. Kind of a shooters co-op. He never manufactured a single round but we got to come learn a little about reloading and every student left with a few boxes of accurate target ammo. Some students stayed longer, learned more and left with more ammo. He'd even help some people get started on their own, showing them the basic equipment to start with. It was allot of fun learning the basics and getting to take home our work. Kept half the forum plinking away and learning. Too bad no one out here is teaching.

This whole thread is making me want to learn more and buy my own equipment. Now you guys are talking about primer shortages? WTH? Can anyone recommend a good handgun caliber given that availability is such an issue? Screw stopping power, I'm talking buying power. I always thought my 9mm would see me through world war tres, a zombie invasion and the apocolypse. Now it sounds like it doesn't matter. I wan't a new handgun and this all sounds pretty bleak. I'll make sure it's a different caliber that's for darn sure, I'm not talking about power here- anyone recommend .40 S&W vs. .45 ACP?
