I have left it alone for another week and I have tried calling several times today but just get the busy signal. We are now at 3.5 weeks and still nothing. The dealer is basically fed up with waiting at this point as well.

My wife and I went to the gun show at Dulles last weekend on Friday, and she walked right it, found the Sig she wanted, did paperwork, and they ran the background check, and she was approved in 5 minutes. Of course she was rubbing it in big time.... :hysterical:

One thing that might be an issue, is that I have never purchased a firearm in VA and always bought them in other states I have lived in. Not sure this matters or not. I still don't understand how this process works considering it took 2 weeks to get my CHP from VA and that was several years ago, so why doesn't that previous background check trump this pistol background check process? It makes no sense at all to me.

I friend of mine purchased a shotgun from the Marine Corp Exchange in Quantico about the same time you bought your gun and he is still waiting as for the same reasons. I know, does't help.
Let us speak courteously, deal fairly, and keep ourselves armed and ready.

Bought my first handgun online last week. Spent maybe 15 minutes total at my FFL dealer before walking out with gun in hand. Beings my first Virginia purchase, I don't think that's your issue. Good luck, hopefully it will come through soon.

It varies greatly from person to person. If the computers flag anything (nearly all flags are eventually ruled out as nothing), you're in for a long wait because they are not staffed sufficiently to handle the volume. It's an old redundant system that needs to go.

If being delayed is an issue, call the State Police. I always got 3-5 hour delays, then the guy at the shop told me to call.

When I did I found out that my social (which I thought was making it easier for me to get approved), was 1 number away from someone in the criminal database. It pulls back a group of numbers around you. The officer instructed me to leave off my social next time.

Instant Approval.

I called all day to VSP and never got anyone to answer. So around 2pm today I decided to call the dealer since I decided not to bug them for a week as well, and wouldn't you know it I was approved on Tuesday actually which made it a total of 3 weeks, and the dealer just forgot to call me to come pick up my new Beretta M9A1.

Dang this is a beautiful pistol. But for such an expensive pistol you would think Beretta would actually design a nice case/box that the pistol comes in. What a twinky thing and the paperwork has no where to fit in the box. Oh well I guess I finally got through the system and or VSP finally decided to work on my paperwork and finished the "in research" status.

I was delayed for the first time ever today... After probably eleven purchases and two chp renewals.... But the delay was only 4 hours.

Yep, I got a NIB G17c as my backup to my g21c CCWOC, and now I have the Beretta M9A1 as my baby for showing off how pretty she is. But yes, I am happy the BC finally went through so now in theory I should be able to get one done quicker now....

I made a Firearm purchase at Dick's on Rt.360 W . on Saturday ....The background Check only took about 15 minutes . I always use my Voter Card as my 2nd. I.D. I never give my SSN , I use my Federal Tax I.D.# . Never had any issue ever...My Gun Dealer Buddy told me not to use My SSN ....This creates the most problems. It took me longer to check out ( using a gift card and a $100 off coupon ) than to do the BC.

Naw, went to an open carry luncheon instead. Just as good!

Sorry to be late to the party, but I have been "in research" for a month now for a shotgun purchase. I have been searching for a telephone number to contact the VSP with no luck. Can someone share? Thanks much.

A few are taking really long times. My buddy bought a 7mm08 at the last Chantilly gun show. He just got it last Saturday as he was in research the whole time.

I just bought a 308 yesterday and I was in and out in 20 minutes. I don't understand the long waits. Anyone know why some are in research for so long?

I pretty much have to use my SSN as I had issues years past. I am a JR so my dad and I get stuff screwed up a lot.
