Some of the manufacturers seem to be keeping up better with demand. PMC, for example, is coming in small spurts and most backorders (when you can even find those) are listed as mid-February. Like someone said in another thread, if you're patient, you can generally find it. Though some of it (.22LR, anyone?) seems to have completely disappeared.
I would add that you have to move fast if you do see it. Had some in my cart a couple of days ago and by the time I checked out they went from 31 cases to 0.
Just keep checking.

Ditto! I went to the Colonial Heights wal-mart, found a 100 pack of .45 Auto Remington JHP, picked up two boxes, went shopping for 30 minutes, the other 4 boxes? Gone.

As to .22LR? D'HELL!? I cannot find ANY online, and they were selling $18 boxes for $60 at the show!

Was in the Chesterfield Walmart this morning. Bare as can be. Over one of their "limit 3 per customer" signs someone wrote "THANKS OBAMA". :hysterical:

Even their shotgun loads are drying up. It's crazy.

For anyone who says "buy X gun because X load is so common you'll be able to get it anywhere in a SHTF scenario" they can blow it out their A$$.

Freedom munitions has 500 rounds of .223 for $293.99 in stock (not great but better than a buck a round):

They run out fast but have been able to resupply every few days.

Seriously. .22lr. I cannot find any. It's .22 for goodness sake not some "dangerous" man stopper. This is way beyond out of control.

That's my take on the .22 shortage bones. I'd rather practice trigger drills with a $0.03 bullet than a $0.15 bullet.

Check Mechanicsville Wal-mart tonight....

Nothing... .243 expensive, and .30-06... a smattering of 12 ga, and .410, but BARE as a porn star's bottom.

I concur with the .22LR, but the prices have come up from .03 a round. If you do the math? It's between .09-.20 cent a round. (expletives...lots of them)

Every walmart is different in there stocking schemes, but I have talked to the walmart folks at 3 different places and they receive what little shipments of ammo stock in the evening trucks and they load the shelves early morning. I got lucky over the weekend and my local walmart forgot to stock the shelves with a case of the Winchester 100 round 9mm boxes under the counter, so they handed me the 3 boxes, i called my wife to come out and buy another 3 boxes but before she got there 3-4 other people showed up and bought it all within 15 minutes. They had a lot of the 45 acp hydroshocks and the 22mag, so I bought 3 of each. The one thing I can't figure out is why all the walmarts stocked up on 45 Colt because each of them have several cases of that crap on the shelves and clearly no one buys that stuff. I bet they meant to stock up on 45 acp and got the 45 Colt by mistake. I did not see any 22LR at any of these locations near me.

Got lucky last week while at local gun store, my buddy there told me that local Walmart had 12 boxes of 22lr in stock( 325 rounds for $14.00 ) that his girlfriend saw and bought some. So I went straight there and got my 3 boxes.

Found 9mm for $17.99 a box Sat. and got 4 even though I have plenty already.

Walmart in Meriden, Ct. ( 30 minutes from Sandy Hook ) had the barest shelves I've seen yet last night, a little .17, 30-06, and 12 ga. Didn't go in the Dick's here, but they weren't busy. Going to hit Cabelas on the way back Sat. and hope to find something.

GM in Fredtown received a couple pallets of ammo this morning. 1000rd packs of 223, 1600rds packs of CCI MM and gobs of other caliber/size packs. That was around 1000, I had to go back to town and stopped in around noon and they only had 4-5 of the higher priced 223 and zero 22lr in stock. They did have a good assortment of other calibers still on the shelves though.

Man, about two weeks ago my lovely wife said, "You haven't been shooting in awhile, why dont you slip out Monday and go to the range?"

To which I could only reply, "What, and yell bang every time I pull the trigger? I can do that here".

I only have a few dozen shells and maybe a total of 200 9mm with a smattering of .45's and the weird stuff the Nagant uses, cant waste any of it because I couldn't get more.

When even a highly occasional shooter like me can't do it, well, its screwed. My condolences for you hardcore types, must be going through withdrawal.

Not at all. We bought in bulk and will have plenty to carry us through the shortage. The last .22lr order I got was 15k rounds, which should last awhile...particularly since I was adding it to several thousand I already had since I was "getting low."

If stored properly ammo will last for a long, long time (practically your lifetime). Thus, if you know you're going to use it and the price is only going to go up, why not buy as much as you can afford and it will be there when you get around to it?

When I lived in Maryland I had an FFL, once I moved to VA and the Scum-Aholes at BATF let the homeowners association know I was a license holder in their neighborhood...well, so much for my license....anyway, I've been buying ammo and stocking up forever. Whenever I was in Walmart, I'd stop at the gun counter and buy 3-4 boxes of .22's (Federal 525's sorts of stuff)...it doesn't take long to get up a good supply at low cost. I've got .223 South African reloadable stuff that cost $110/1,000, Radnor Green .308 at $125/1,000 and the several thousand 7.62x39 with steel bullets that I found for 1,440 rounds for $38 in the late 1970s. I also reload and cast my own bullets. And yes, bought a ton of primers and powder before the prices went nuts.

So, is there an ammo shortage? You betcha'...for people who didn't plan there is. You don't drive your car around with 1/8th of a tank of gas...you keep it topped up when you are around the lower priced gas. I'm selling a case of PMC Bronze .223 ammo for a high price. If it sells, it sells and I'll be amazed...if it doesn't, it won't spoil and I don't really care. Right now I'm keeping friends supplied with .22's and .223's...I'm getting them also involved in reloading so no matter what, they'll be able to shoot.

Yeah this ammo shortage has affected my training routine. I had plans of taking a Vickers carbine class in VA beach last weekend, but didn't because I couldn't find any reasonable ammo in time.

I have lots, just don't feel like shooting up my stash.
