Quick question about gun ranges.

Post by HilarityEnsues »

I haven't had the chance to take my Sprinfield XD into a gun range yet. I just quit my job at Wal-Mart for emergency laparoscopic gallbladder surgery. I was going to take my gun out to the dirt pile me and my buddy use for a backstop during target practice but the owner wouldn't let us out there because it is too muddy. I was wondering if all ranges require you to take a safety course, as I can not afford one at the moment.

If not, where is a range in VA I can without taking a course.

I don't know of any that require much more than to see your money. Most don't even have an RSO to supervise.

Colonial Shooting Academy in Richmond requires 1st time visitors to watch a 10 minute safety video and you have to tell them some safety rules when you're done. Just about everyone else just wants to see your money.

Superiod Gun and Pawn in Hampton is small and only 50 feet the last time I was in there a year or so ago. I was a member there for a couple of years. No training requirements.

All of those ranges are located close to west virginia, I live in williamsburg. Superior Pawn is closed on Sunday, any idea if there is a range opened on Sundays in hampton roads?

Marksman Newport News, I have not used this range

Chickihominy (?) does not allow pistols

If you can get a member to take you. Lafayette gun club in Seaford.

Yeah my buddies brother is a member of Lafayette Gun Club, he only goes there to get ammo and attend meetings. I'm not paying those insane membership fees just to use the 24 hour range.

$150 per year is insane? That's $12.50 per month.

Have your buddies brother take you then it is free.

If you shot a couple of times a month it is not too expensive but for just every now and then it is pricey.

Another quick question, Can I carry my magazines loaded in my duffel bag or do I need to load the mags once I get to the range?

I can get a 5 year membership with the NRA for that price. My buddies bro also said you have to be a member of the NRA for 1 year, and be asked to join by a member of the club who is in good standing.

Never met him but he has his own youtube "show" and he seems to be strung out on some sort of drug or just lacking braincells..

From my understanding WMA /state parks no longer allow handguns on their ranges, and are only for "sighting in" rifles. Also their is a permit fee of $4.00 a day or $23.00 per year. At Chickahominy and Amelia they only allow you to shoot 10-12 rounds and then you have to let the next person go, if people are waiting. The Game Warden is present at both ranges.
