I know most of you folks have gotten the basic training, but feel free to pass this along to your family/friends/neighbors/co-workers who are interested.

Thanks to our friends over at F3 Tactical, I will be conducting an Introduction To Handguns course at their store on Sunday, January 27th, starting at 11am.

The classroom session will be held at F3 Tactical, followed by the range session at Blue Ridge Arsenal.

Have you ever wanted to know how to safely handle and shoot a firearm? Now's your chance. Learn the basics in a relaxed atmosphere in this NRA First Steps course.

Learn how to safely handle both revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, including loading, unloading, jam-clearing and basic maintenance of a firearm, as well as ammunition basics and shooting fundamentals. Successful completion of this course satisfies the training requirement to obtain a Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit.

Owning a handgun is not required to enroll, but students are welcome to bring their own firearm (unloaded and cased).

Course includes student reference materials, range fees, eye/ear protection and use of a firearm (if desired) for the range session.

The price is $125, and that includes everything but ammunition.

Good Lord that makes me feel old. I can rememer when an intro course was $50 and it included the ammunition. And we liked it! Now get off my lawn!l LOL

Is there some reason you cant use the classroom at Blue Ridge?

How do you register? My wife wants to go and probably one or two of her friends would like to go. I don't see anything on the F3 web site. I'm guessing you buy the ammunition at Blue Ridge. What's the round about cost for what's needed?

I probably could pay some amount at Blue Ridge to rent the classroom, but since they do their own training business, I'm not sure they let outside instructors do courses there.

Your wife (and her friends) can register for the course through the NRA website: http://www.nrainstructors.org/SignupStu ... ?id=144426 (that links directly to this particular course). The deposit is waived for this course, since it's within a week.

I haven't bought ammo over at Blue Ridge in a while, but I expect for 9mm, you can get a box for $20-ish. 22LR is less. Sometimes I will have a few students who get together and split a couple boxes of ammo, which is also fine.

Anybody ever taken this course offered by Blue Ridge? Curious to see what the difference would be between the courses.

First Steps Pistol should be First Steps Pistol, with slight variances in the instructor's experience. Its a standard NRA course.

Blue Ridge doesn't call it First Step Pistol, they call it Intro To Handgun on their website and it's $125 ammo included. Not sure if any of this would help qualify for a CWP though. Perhaps the NRA route would be better in the long run???

You could call them and ask if their Intro to Handgun includes a certificate of training with which to obtain your CHP. I know at least one of their classes does NOT include said certificate.

My First Steps course does include a certificate, and will serve as evidence of training for obtaining a CHP.
