Anyone know if this is a good quality pistol?
I was talking to my cousin on facebook the other day. I told him about my first handgun purchase and told him I was considering saving my money for a Springfield Operator MC. He told me to purchase the Tisas Zig M 1911. It's made in Turkey and meets their military specifications. The only thing that worries me is I can't find a whole lot of info about it online. Most of what I find is in Turkish. There are a few review videos on youtube saying it's very good quality, but costs under $400 which is unheard of for a good 1911.

Take a look and tell me what you think, theres a video as well as a discription of the tests the gun is put through but no results.

I haven't heard of those specifically, nor do I own one. Having said that, I have heard of good values in1911s coming from Turkey and Asia. The main ones being from Asia are the Rock Island Armory (RIA), STIs, and the like. The fit and finish on them is expected to be a little rough, may take time to break in, and might need some fine tuning to get JHPs for feed reliably. Overall folks seem to be happy with them. I handled a GI RIA being sold as new at a pawn shop and thought it felt pretty respectable. If they had one with the expended beavertail grip, I would have risked the wifely displeasure and picked it up.
One thing to consider is how well it fits in your hand, easy access to the controls, and how well it supports your natural point of aim, whether or not you might get hammer bite, etc. This is hard to do over things like auction sites. You might want to check smaller gunshops and pawn shops.
There is nothing wrong with used 1911s. You can get a price break. 1911s are mechanically simple so as long as they pass muster, probably all you may conider doing is spending a few extra dollars and replace a spring or two.
Function checking is easy.

And if Bruce Dickinson wants more cowbell, we should probably give him more cowbell!
Re: Anyone know if this is a good quality pistol?
The googlefoo is stong in me.
Seriously, go over to the 1911forum and check out what they say. Based on what I am reading, if you want a 1911 GI then this might be a decent gun at a good price. this would also be a good gun for a project as it should be series70 on the inside.
BTW, have you shot a 1911? I suggest everyone try one before they buy. I know there is a lot of love out there for them. I love the look, but I don't like them as a shooter. I have an old Colt Gold Cup in storage that I don't shoot.

As was mentioned, check out Rock Island Armory's offerings. I have 2 genuine Colts, a full size stainless steel Gov't model and a stainless Officer's model, but I'd put my new parkerized RIA Compact Tactical up against them any day. I can't find any fault with the fit and finish at all, no rough edges, sloppy machining or spotty finish, and it shoots great. Price was perfect, too - $399 with case from Dark Sun Surplus at the Chantilly gun show a few months ago. Give RIA a look, I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.

I would go to the range and shoot different ones before you buy. Find one that is comfortable to shoot. What may seem like a great deal will not be if it doesn't excite you when you shoot it.

Re: Anyone know if this is a good quality pistol?
For what its worth. The reviews on Bud Gun Shop are all 5 stars. This pistol is marketed under other names as well but is made by Tisas
Re: Anyone know if this is a good quality pistol?
This is a really good point. Most of my civilian friends who shoot mine don't like them. I find mostly military people do but new shooters never do.RWBlue01 wrote:have you shot a 1911? Find out what you're afraid of and go live there.

Thanks everyone, I might be holding off on the gun Purchase. Williamsburg is completely sold out of Handgun ammo, I had to drive 33 miles to the Hampton Wal-Mart to pick some up. I ended up buying 200 rnds which should hold me for another 2 trips to the range.

Well.... I can help you with that burden; you can always gift it to me. I'd make sure it gets regular exercise!RWBlue01 wrote:I love the look, but I don't like them as a shooter. I have an old Colt Gold Cup in storage that I don't shoot.

Cabela's online has plenty of handgun ammo.
As far as the pistol, someone bought one and did a review. I have heard that the overall quality is better than RIA.

I've got a REGENT R-100 that was made in Turkey. Don't know if it's the same manufacturer. It is, as someone already said, a solid milspec 1911.

Gun-crazy? Me? I'd say the gun-crazy ones are the ones that don’t HAVE one.

I'm gonna skip on the pistol, at this rate if I want a rifle I better get one now. Spotted a Norinco SKS on guns america for $395 in good condition. 7.62x39 ammo seems pretty cheap too.

I added the TISAS to my "buy" list.
Re: Anyone know if this is a good quality pistol?
Got to handle one today. The trigger pull was too heavy to suit me. Otherwise seemed pretty solid.

Re: Anyone know if this is a good quality pistol?
What was the pull? 8lbs or more?
Re: Anyone know if this is a good quality pistol?
Go find yourself an old beat ass Norinco. I bought one a few years back for next to nothing, it goes 'bang' every time I pull the trigger, and it's never had problems with any JHP out of either the original GI mags or this new Kimber thing I got a few months back. It might not be the tightest 1911 in the world but I'll take it over a box stock RIA any day of the week. It feels more...solid, if that makes sense. I bought the thing because I'd read they were made of the hardest steel anybody'd ever used to make a GI and were a great platform for custom guns (Wilson, Nighthawk, Brown...all those guys will build a Norc) but I ended up loving the thing so much I just got it polished and reblued and shot it.
A lot.
A lot.
Re: Anyone know if this is a good quality pistol?
The best thing about guns is you buy them and they basically hold their value and they don't eat anything to keep them. I don't see any reason to give it away. If someone wants to buy it...I may consider it, but I have no need to give it away.GeneFrenkle wrote:Well.... I can help you with that burden; you can always gift it to me. Re: Anyone know if this is a good quality pistol?
I've never shot one, but have seen them around and did some research on them, haven't heard any bad about them. The price is probably just because their Turkish. Don't forget do you REALLY think a Colt or a Kimber is worth their price? NOPE! It's being USA built and reputation that your paying for. Plenty of other countries are good at making guns. I plan on buying something like the Tisas, or RIA for my first 1911 and see what I think. I've shot some nice ones and shot some budget ones, and honestly noticed no difference outside of the physical appearance. There is no question the the high end ones have a better finish on them. But that can be worked with.

Re: Anyone know if this is a good quality pistol?
There are differences between the various manufacturers and cost categories. There's the feed ramp angle, polishing, types of materials, slide strength, slide tightness, etc. It's all a tradeoff, honestly. If you shoot RN all the time against a target and you don't care about 1" at 25 yards, then sure. If you're going to shoot HP and need reliability, then you'll want to pay attention to the feed ramp, etc.snatale42 wrote:I've never shot one, but have seen them around and did some research on them, haven't heard any bad about them. I'm with ya, I'm sure there are differences I just think the pricing gets excessive with 1911's.GeneFrenkle wrote:There are differences between the various manufacturers and cost categories.
