I ran into this video on YouTube by Sturmgewehre. I'm sure that some of you are familiar with him. He does a really good job of breaking down Premier Feinstein's proposal for the "assault weapons" ban next year. He has links in the description of the video. One of them is a link to the congressional website that will automatically send a letter to your representatives, senators, and the president concerning what ever issue you chose.... obviously I am concerned with gun control as I assume you are as well. Sturmgewehre has gone out of his way to make this extremely easy for me, you or anybody else. He has even posted a template letter in the description that can be used so you don't even have to write a letter. Not only do I encourage you to participate in this campaign, but please pass this on to anyone you know... and I do mean any body. This time around we are not going to be able to keep this issue within the confines of the gun enthusiast community. We need to to get people involve that would typically more complacent and indifferent on this issue if we expect to win. Here is the video...

Greetings,

Due to the recent events at Sandy Hook elementary school we now face renewed threats to our Constitutional rights. While I understand how painful the loss must be for those touched by this tragedy, blaming firearms or their owners and punishing them is not the answer to the challenges we face as a nation.

We already have laws that were violated by a man who was likely psychotic and heavily medicated. This man was stopped by the mandatory background check from purchasing firearms. He then decided to murder his mother and take her legally owned firearms to commit this tragedy.

If your true goal is to protect our children, then enact legislation that will do that. Banning firearms that are rarely used in crime (less than 1% of the time) is not going to stop such tragedies, that was proven in 1999 when the Columbine shooting took place under the 1994 ban. Do something meaningful, please. Make committing the insane easier. Put armed security guards in our schools. But do not strip us of our rights and property by passing additional anti-gun laws that have historically had no positive effect on crime in our nation or others.

Done...it will fall on deaf ears with my Representative, but maybe I can influence our sitting Senator to vote against Feinstein's bill

May be it will fall on deaf ears... until we collectively scream load enough as a citizenry. Even the strongest of representatives (which there are no strong reps... they are all weak) are nothing to the will of the people. Thank you very much for your cooperation and participation.

Made the email short and sweet. I demand opposition to any additional restrictive gun legislation. I expect support for expanding our freedoms. I am paying attention to votes, and gun legislation is a pivotal issue.

Technically, yes. However, it should be obvious in your statements that such consequences are political (e.g. being voted out) or unintended (i.e. undesired social/economic/etc. impacts). While we still have a 1st Amendment (mostly), anything that could be construed as violent, rebellious, subversive (regardless of your intentions) will definitely get you on a nice government watch list. IIRC, English isn't you're first language so it might be useful to have a level-headed, native speaker read it to make sure you don't inadvertently cross a line. Just a suggestion, you're free to do as you wish.
