Moving to Virginia

Post by yvbf50 »

Looks like I'll be moving to VA in the next month or so. Been in Vermont for the past 19 years, getting tired of the long cold winters. Seems that VA is pretty gun friendly. Anything that isn't legal? I have a full auto MAC-11, several AR15's, 60 and 100 round mags, and my latest toy is a Barret M82A1. From what I can tell, though, my auto knives will have to stay in Vermont. Could someone verify that? I might end up in Leesburg or Woodbridge. Any long distance ranges nearby for my .50 cal?

Welcome to VGOF, Roland :welcome:

The MAC-11 will need to be registered with the VSP as a "machine gun".

The "auto knives" may be a problem since VA doesn't like "spring assist" knives.

Other than that, you should be OK. Just for reference, you can scroll up to the top-left section of this page for links on VA gun laws and restrictions.

Thanks for the links. Unbelievable how possesion of an automatic knife implies intent to "sell, barter, give or furnish the same". It's a shame, since I do really like my Benchmade Infidel.

Welcome!

Pretty much what oakridge said....but we're not lawyers.....

You might also consider getting your concealed carry permit. It's straightforward to get and if you're in prince william county, there should be minimal games.

:welcome: to VGOF. I am moving to VA (Gainesville) next month from Massachusetts. As to Ranges you might want to check out Peacemaker National Training center in west Virginia. They have a 1000 yard range. I joined last February and have shot there many times during visits to VA while having my new home renovated.

Jack, thanks for the link to the Peacemaker Range. Nothing even remotely close to that in Vermont. I'm lucky to have a 200 yd range nearby.

Nice part is that they have electronic targets! Don't know if they use them for practice or just for shoots. Give them a call and talk to Greg.

Thanks Randy, I'd love to. Just got the Barret a couple of weeks ago. Been thinking about it for a couple of years, the recent election result pushed me over the edge. Firing it really puts a smile on your face. Only been able to try it out at 200 yds though.

You may want to check out the NRA Range as well. I went for my first time this past Sunday with my son. Nice facilities.

Just a thought,
