Dick's and Walmart Pull Certain Rifles For Sale

Post by ShotgunBlast »

Walmart announced Monday that the chain is pulling the Bushmaster Rifle from its web store, a military-style weapon similar to that used by 20-year-old Adam Lanza in the mass shooting that killed 20 children and six staff members Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
“We are extremely saddened by the unspeakable tragedy that occurred last week in Newtown, CT, and our hearts go out to the victims and their families, and to the entire community.”

“Out of respect for the victims and their families, during this time of national mourning we have removed all guns from sale and from display in our store nearest to Newtown and suspended the sale of modern sporting rifles in all of our stores chainwide.”

“We continue to extend our deepest sympathies to those affected by this terrible tragedy.”
It is unclear how long the suspension will last.

I'd say it'll last just long enough for panic and decreased supply to drive the price up, and for real firearms dealers to sell off their more desireable models. Then, Walmart, in plenty of time to beat any moratorium on sales, will sell their crap at an inflated price in a seller's market.

Just a hunch.

I hope somebody organizes a redneck boycott of WalMart. If the rednecks in their customer base quit going there, THAT would break their back in a new York minute! Might cause a nationwide depression and crash the domestic cheap beer and chewing tobacco industries, though.

I'm really contemplating not shopping at any of these stores again. I'd rather support a person/company who won't sell me down the river.

In addition to pulling their firearms selection, it looks like Cheaper Than Dirt is also not selling some of their AR15 accessories too. Looks like they had a 30-round mag up to $60 before taking it offline.

If I were to pick up some AR15 magazines, would this be what I'd be getting? A lot of recommendations out there for PMAGs, but it seems like there are a lot of flavors.

At this point, whatever you can get, but I'm partial to Pmags.

So if you're a pmag fan, you have no preference in which pmag you get?

I assume you mean the different generations and/or the level windows. My preference is for non-windowed mags (although I have a few). Haven't tried the Gen3's, but at this point you take what you can get. Nearly everyone is sold out and although they say back orders are ok, I'm not totally convinced that they will be able to honor those dates. I hope I'm wrong as I would like to pick up some more.

FYI, Brownell's will let you backorder more than 2 mags per type/color if you desire. On the downside they don't list a projected available date and because of that likely have a larger backorder than Midway. However, if you want to gamble and get a bunch of mag or none, that's probably the way to roll.

So sad about Dicks.....we love to shop there. (don't buy guns there, but knives, and hunting gear etc etc). I like to buy my guns from people who know something about them. I don't like Walmart in general just because the stuff they sell seems to break really fast. If I am going to spend $$ I want it to count.

Dicks has now taken any "short barrel" - ie, 18" - pump and semi-automatic off the shelves here in Virginia.

Wal-mart did a press release that they're NOT pulling rifles! I read in another comment here...

I think they're OVERWHELMED, and some manager misspoke.

Wal-mart knows what side their biscuits are buttered! They ain't pissing off the Rednecks!

Walmart is now claiming it was just a rumor and they will continue as normal.
