Looking for FFL dealer for transfer in Alexandria
Looking for FFL dealer for transfer in Alexandria
I need to find an FFL dealer in the Alexandria area to do a transfer. The only shop that listed the fee was The Trophy Room at $40. Can anybody make a recommendation?
Thanks

Try Sharpshooters (formerly Gilberts). I'm not sure trophy room is even open anymore.

Sharpshooters is your best bet for closeness. They charge 40 bucks. If you don't mind a short drive, try VA Arms in Manassas, they charge 20 bucks, probably the best deal in the area.

Re: Looking for FFL dealer for transfer in Alexandria
I have a yearly Gold membership at Gilberts (now Sharpshooters) - I would NOT recommend them for anything. I called today to arrange a transfer - they stated they would not do a transfer from the online store where I am arranging a purchase. The good folks down at Gilberts / Sharpshooters are not good folks and more importantly - have ZERO customer service. The $300+ my wife and I spent on the Gold membership was a complete waste of money.
Today (August 5, 2009) I called Gilbert's (Sharp Shooters) to arrange a transfer of a pistol I am in the processing of purchasing from an online website. I spoke with "Robert." I was told that Gilberts does not accept transfers from Centerfire Systems located at http://www.centerfiresystems.com/ because centerfire systems is a wholesaler. Robert went on to state that they only do transfers from other gun shops like themselves and individuals. Robert stated - no transfers from wholsalers or manufacturers.
Now I must regress a moment and share yet another problem that occurred at Gilberts a while back. As some of you may know, Gilberts (now SharpShooters) promotes that they have discounted FFL transfers for premium members. The regular FFL transfer fee is $40, however, they advertise transfers to premium members at $25. So, a couple months back I purchased a Detonics Combat Master .45cal from an online dealer, and had the gun shipped to Gilberts my FFL. When I went to pick up the gun, I was charged $40 for the transfer. I stated that I was a premium member and that I was entitled to the $25 transfer fee - mananger stated no. After completing the transaction and paying the $40 fee, I was leaving the store and and observed the written notice on the bulletin board stated that premium memberships to include Gold have a reduced transfer fee of $25. I took the sign off the wall and took it to the manager, at which time an adjustment was made. There is more to this story, however, suffice it to say, that once again customer service is lacking.
When you "join" Gilberts (now SharpShooters) one of their selling points is that they have this discounted FFL transfer fee. Now it turns out that the FFL transfers are limited to firearms from whomever they want and when they want, certain retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers are off limits and not permitted to transfer. I have contacted the Owner via email - lets see how long it takes to get a response and what their policy about FFL transfers is now.

VA Arms has now raised their FFL prices to 32 dollars.
Call them prior to having stuff sent there.

Check out Quantico Tactical. They are a new store and I did one the other day with GrnGhost. Not sure what he paid but I'm guessing it was a decent price.

A new store, to my knowledge they've been there for a while. The last I heard they had lost their FFL a while back. Do you have new info?zephyp wrote:Check out Quantico Tactical. They have a place in Woodbridge but this one is in Q-town and brand new. Had no clue they lost an FFL. The had several ARs and XDs plus lots of tactical gear.40shooter wrote:A new store, to my knowledge they've been there for a while. The last I heard they had lost their FFL a while back. Ok, the one in Woodbridge, near the BJ's is the one that lost the FFL. I haven't been to the one in Quantico.zephyp wrote:They have a place in Woodbridge but this one is in Q-town and brand new. It looks like the one in Q-town caters to the AR crowd and tactical shooter. They also have a fair selection of knives. Found one I've been looking for. No ammo though - at least not to be seen.

Re: Looking for FFL dealer for transfer in Alexandria
No, you just have to drive through Quantico MCB. They do give discounts to military and LE though. Make sure if you go you follow guidelines for transporting firearms across Federal property.40shooter wrote:I assume you have to be military to buy from there. Yes/No?
- All firearms cased unloaded and in trunk
- All mags must be unloaded
- Ammo must have max separation from guns
- Your CHP is no good on base so you must disarm
You dont need a government ID, just tell the guys at the gate you are going to Q-town. I also recommend you tell them how you've got everything situated so they can give you a go/nogo before entering the base.
