Home-built AR

Post by wpoppert »

I've been buying a part or two each paycheck for a while now. Here's the result:

Looks really nice. Could you post the parts list and give a range report?

It's a frankengun. The lower is PSA, the bolt and barrel assemblies are Daniel Defense, and the lower parts kit is DPMS. Other miscellaneous parts I picked up at gun shows or online from Brownell's, Sportsmans Guide, etc. I only had a very brief opportunity to test it out, so it still needs to be properly sighted in, but here is my first group from 25 yards... I thought I fired five rounds, but it looks like I must've squeezed an extra one in there.

Forgot to mention -- the BUIS are YHM. I haven't selected optics yet, but open to recommendations (looking to spend <$200).

Sweet. Frankengun means "built to suit the owner". Thanks for sharing the details. I've read good things about PSA lowers. Looks like the precision is pretty good. Anything you'd change if you could?

I went with a DelTon lower kit and the PSA mid length upper on sale. time everything was put together, my frankenstein special came in at about $600, give or take a few. She cleans up real nice and shoots rather well!

I haven't used it enough yet to determine if there's anything I'd change, other than adding some kind of optics. As this was my first build, my goal was just to build an AR that works, so I'm satisfied for now (until I set a different goal). I did just buy an AK receiver, though, so I guess I've already set one...

My AR stripped lower arrives at my FFL today, just blocks from where the Dhali Lama is speaking. Anyone think I can get him to autograph it for me? I know a Gadsden flag is pretty cool, but... total enlightenment in 5.56mm?

Hey, it would be pretty cool lol! Have him engrave it.

Updated it a bit. The bayonet (USMC OKC3S) was a birthday gift to my son that I borrowed for the picture. I tried to convince the folks at the Marine Corps Exchange that I should get it free since nobody uses them anymore, but we failed to come to an agreement on the matter. It is engraved with his initials on one side and "Sic Semper Tyrannis" on the other.
