Walther PPS

Post by GmuGuy »

Just wanted to give you guys a update on my walther pps chambered in .40 S&W. I was out shooting it a few weeks back at the shoot & greet down in Gore VA. I had a failure to feed, when I went to clear the weapon it would not go back into battery. I could not brake it down either since the trigger would not reset (glock method of brake down pull trigger then tabs) I tried the Walther method of removing the back strap still no cheese.

Once home I did a little research walther forums. I found that i could remove the panel on the back of the slide pull out the striker assembly and then be able to remove the slide from the frame. I did that and right away I noticed the striker was all mangled and the trigger connector was broke. I contacted walther which referred me to smith & weston. They told me I had to send it in if they were going to cover the damages. I sent if off over a week ago, I called today to make sure they revived it (they have) I asked what the turn around time would be and was told 4-5 weeks :(. Any one else have any experience with bad walthers? I bought the gun brand new 2 years ago shot probably 1000 rounds through it and have had only maybe 1 failure before. This was my everyday carry which makes me a little sad.

since then I started carrying a small 38 special but i just didnt feel that was the right fit so now I have been carrying my s&W M&P 45c in a cross breed supertuck and have been loving it. Not sure if im going to go back to the walther after this issue gets resolved. What are your thoughts?

The only Walther I ever owned, a PPK, was nothing but trouble. That said, there are probably many thousands out there that are trouble free. To be honest I would not stray far from Springfield, Glock or S&W when spending my money. Walther used to be a highly regarded brand but seem to be an afterthough today. You might change your mind once you get it back repaired.

I have owned a PPS in 9mm and it was my EDC as my CCW. The only thing I've heard of is the slide release button getting damaged, never the trigger assembly.

My PPS was ultra reliable so I can't comment on customer service or warranty work, but at least it's getting taken care of! There is no other fully featured piece that is as slim as the PPS, besides maybe the M&P shield.

I sold it because all of my other handguns are DA/SA. To be honest, the most important factor for my EDC is my trust in it's reliability. If you feel that you can't trust the PPS after you get it back, it seems like the decision has already been made, especially if you've found a suitable replacement that you're happy with.

update on my walther pps. S&w called me last friday told me my pistol was "unrepairable" I asked why. I was told there is a post under the trigger connector that was "mangled" This post is part of the frame itself. I asked if this was a common problem and was told it is not common but the guy told me he has seen it before. The said they would send me a brand new one and asked what ffl they could send it too. I do have to pay a transfer fee. Overall I am very satisfied they stood behind a product that didn't even have there name on it. I will be buying s&w for a long time to come! :pistol:

At least they are making it right, I wonder how it was caused in the first place.

Wow that's good to go right there. If I had to guess it I'd say it was a manufacturing problem. Glad to hear it though.

Why won't they cover the transfer fee? You should be expense-free on this problem.
