Valid proof of address for handgun purchases

Post by snatale42 »

Hey guys, what do you use for address proof when you purchase. I just moved so now my CHP and Drivers Lic don't match. I don't get any type of util bills or anything because everything is done with ebills. When I called the court to see if I could get a new one I just got the answer "You don't need a new one" I know they can update my address and reissue but it appears you've gotta twist their arm for it. On the VSP page it says Vehicle registration and....nothing. So I'm not sure if my reg is good enough by itself or not.

For me I just used my Cell Phone bill. I went online and printed out the "printable" version of my e-bill. Anything that shows your home of record or current residential address will do. Most e-bill utilities will give you a way to print a regular bill.

I use my voter ID card and drivers license, but being new to the state that might not work for you.

Even paying your utility bills online you can't download a PDF statement from your online account? That should have your name and address on it.

Thanks guys, I figured a bill that I printed myself wouldn't be accepted. Looks like I'll be ok then until it's renew time and everything matches again.

For any purchase of a weapon which fires projectiles, it is needed. They'll run it through NCIC and use it to verify you're saying who you are and where you're from.

I think it's NCIC at least (correct if I'm wrong) - it's just one of many databases out there though to verify personal data.

Just go to the courthouse, pay $10 and get a new CHP with your correct address...

Generally I drive to the store, so I use the vehicle registration.

Practically any printed document with your full legal name and current and correct address can work, assuming your local dealer will accept it. And it's not used for the federal NICS check it's for the State form, of which a copy is sent to VSP.

Do I have to go back to Henrico County, or can I update my address in Montgomery?
Never initiate force against another. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.KYFHO

You have to go to the original issuing Clerk's Office

K1. The clerk of a circuit court that issued a valid concealed handgun permit shall, upon presentation of the valid permit and proof of a new address of residence by the permit holder, issue a replacement permit specifying the permit holder's new address. The clerk of court shall forward the permit holder's new address of residence to the State Police. The State Police may charge a fee not to exceed $5, and the clerk of court issuing the replacement permit may charge a fee not to exceed $5. The total amount assessed for processing a replacement permit pursuant to this subsection shall not exceed $10, with such fees to be paid in one sum to the person who receives the information for the replacement permit.
