Question about American Guns tv show

Post by Rich »

When nothing else is on I occasionally watch American Guns. The thing I dont understand at all is why anyone would pay the prices they charge. They will take a firearm and maybe do a trigger job on it and then sell it for 2 or 3 times the retail price. Just dont get why anyone would pay that.

Some people have more money than brains. As long as those people are around, there will be others willing to take their money.

Besides, they get to be on the Tee-Vee

I've been tempted to swing by the pawn shop on "Hardcore Pawn" just to see if it is as insane as they portray it.

I think it's a status thing and for whatever the reason, they can command the prices they charge. I personally like Will at Red Jackets show better. He seems less arrogant and he's more about his team (family).

Remember that it's television and nothing you see is real... including the price, probably.

Average episode
Customer: Hey, I just walked into your pawn shop with this semi-historic gun. Can you clean it up and make sure it's reliable for me?

Rich: Sure, I could do that but how about I take it to my gang of trained monkeys with hacksaws downstairs, have them shorten the barrel and grind down the sear. Then I'll have my sixteen year old daughter wearing an outfit sized for an average nine year old take the gun over to a motorcycle place to have some flames and skulls spraypainted on there. I'll have my son scratch his initials and some cool squigglies into it and I'll charge you $8k. How does that sound.
Customer: Cool!
Rich: When we're done we can go outside and pretend every gun in the world makes whatever it hits explode into enormous fireballs!

---later---
Rich: I see you want $50k for this collection of fine guns. How about I give you $30k and throw in a vial of Elvis Presley's sweat?

Seller: Cool!

I also like when the hacksaw monkeys go up to each other.

Hacksaw Monkey 1: "Hey, whatcha working on?"

Hacksaw Monkey 2: "I'm working on <such and such detailed part> for <customer who they've already mentioned 40 times in the episode>."

Hacksaw Monkey 1: "Oh wow, that's really critical to the entire project. If you're even 1/1000" off, it could blow up in the customer's face" (as Hacksaw Monkey 2 is grinding away with a big ass file)

Hacksaw Monkey 2: "Yeah. I also have to do <tireless list of things to do that no one cares about>."

Hacksaw Monkey 1: "Well, good luck with that."

Hacksaw Monkey 1 walks away

Yep, that's "American Guns" in a nutshell. Even "Sons of Guns" has turned more dramatic with domestic struggles overshadowing the builds. Take out the drama, concentrate on the build (which should be the primary focus on the show), and the shows would be a lot more interesting. I've learned a lot more from the gun channels on Youtube than from either of these shows.

You know all those networks have gone so far downhill due to these stupid shows. I mean National Geographic, Discovery, and the History Channel it's like all they air. If its not about guns or pawn shops its about so and so group of people with some off the wall job. What ever the hell happened to exploring the ocean or stuff like that?

My theory about the popularity of reality shows is this. It makes it easy to feel better about yourself when you watch some some of these idiots. Ever watch any of those "real housewives" shows? Yeah...i know...i know but my wife is hooked on em. Those are some of the worst people you will ever see...under any circumstance.

They should combine those two shows into one. Let's take Botox Betsy from the Real Housewives of Hooterville and put a hacksaw in her hand. Couldn't be any worse.

Rich Wyatt is supposed to be an elite Master Gunsmith and Firearms Instructor, but having customers blow up 5 gallon glass bottles filled with Tannerite 20 yards away is crazy.

Rich was arrested in 2005 for not complying with a court order:
Saturday, February 12, 2005

Former sheriff's candidate being held in jail

by Jonathan Ellis

GOLDEN— A former candidate for Jefferson County sheriff is now a resident in the county jail.

Rich Wyatt was arrested Feb. 2 by the county's fugitive team in Wheat Ridge after he failed to comply with a judge's orders in a divorce case. The arrest occurred without incident in Wyatt's gun store.

"As I understand it, he was very cooperative," Sheriff Ted Mink said.

Wyatt's stay in the jail - compliments of county taxpayers - could extend to six months after he failed to pay his ex-wife $90,000 that he owed her from a divorce settlement. A judge also ordered him to give the ex-wife, Rebecca Wyatt, two expensive firearms, but Wyatt also refused that order.

Wyatt could be released in fewer than six months if he behaves.

"He can't get out on bail," sheriff's spokeswoman Jacki Tallman said. "But he might get good time. It's up to the sheriff's office. It's based on his behavior and other indicators."

George Johnson, Rebecca Wyatt's attorney, said Wyatt can leave jail early if he pays the money and returns the firearms.

"Any time he pays up, he's released," Johnson said. "If he doesn't pay up he still has to do the six months."

Wyatt still must pay the money even if he completes the six months, or he could face another jail sentence, Johnson said.

Wyatt was one of several Republicans who ran to replace Sheriff John Stone in 2002. He finished second in votes at the county assembly, but failed to garner enough support to advance to the primary.

He later filed a lawsuit in an attempt to derail Russ Cook's candidacy. The lawsuit was dismissed and Cook went on to win the office.

Wyatt told the Courier last year that he intends to run for sheriff again.

Wyatt, 41, is also a handgun instructor and firearms dealer. As a candidate, he favored permissive laws for concealed weapon permits.

In 2002, Wyatt bought an ad in Soldier of Fortune magazine offering a $100,000 reward to anybody who killed Osama bin Laden with one of his rifles.

Wyatt argued in court last year that he didn't have enough money to pay Rebecca Wyatt $90,000.

But a judge disagreed, saying Wyatt could access money from some of the property he owned to pay the debt. The judge gave Wyatt until the end of January to make good on the amount.

Wyatt's divorce hearings were anything but ordinary. He was ordered to turn over about 100 nude photographs of Rebecca Wyatt. When he did, some of the photographs were marked with lewd comments or torn.

Wyatt also demanded that Johnson be arrested for destroying evidence. Wyatt said Johnson destroyed evidence when he threw away pieces of some of the torn photographs in a court trash can.

Authorities declined to pursue charges against Johnson.

So in 2005 Rich couldn't pay $90,000 as a divorce settlement to his ex, but today Celebrity Net Worth has him listed at worth $10 million dollars. All the kids in the show are from his current wife Renee, so I imagine if there's money it's her family money. This is why she commands so much attention on the show.

I've been watching and there's a buildup of the son going to Italy to be a master engraver. I see the drama as the son's going to leave no matter what Rich says. I wondered how an 18 year old could just run to Italy for a year and make it, but it's is stepson and I bet her family has the money to send him. They play up this drama so when he returns he was trained by the best in the world to drum up more engraving business.

If anyone believes anything about these shows, you need to put the remote down and take a step back. They are produced for everyone to think their real. There's always already a camera behind the closed door. Already a camera crew set up at a meet to film the helicopter coming in to land, there's always an unlimited amount of cash carried around to buy anything...

I watch the History, Discover, TruTV reality shows for the fun, but the only show I actually enjoy watching is Top Shot and Top Guns

Same goes for red jacket. Will lost his ffl a while back and Joe and Vince basically owned the business.

I made a post about it a while ago.

I'm surprised nobody lampooned the fat gunsmith who screams something like "hacksawed-off .54 calibre bluderbuss, FIRE IN THE HOLE!" before he pulls the trigger; and then DOES NOT get laughed out of the shop by his fellow workers. Talk about unbelievable.

Love Survivorman. Some "survival experts" complain that he complains about being lonely or whatnot a lot - that's reality reality!
