Ruger SR40c problem or owner fail?

Post by burnthru »

Hello VGOF!

Long time reader here and I recently purchased a new Ruger SR40c.

On my second trip the the range I experienced a problem where the slide did not fully close and seat the next round after firing. The slide was aprox 1/4 inch from being fully seated back in place.

This happened on aprox 5 times of 100 round fired, and I would have to tap on the rear of the slide inorder to seat the next round.

Ammo used: American eagle S&W .40 165 grain. new ammo

I have fired aprox 300 rounds and this occurred on my second trip to the range. I cleaned and lighly lubricated after each trip.

I don't think I am limp wristing, and I am not sure if it is Operator error, cleaning issue, ammo issue, or firearm issue.

Any suggestions appreciated!!!

You shooting with one hand or two?
Any burrs on the suspect 5 cases?

With that many instances, I'd take the barrel out of the gun and use it as a go no go gauge with a couple of boxes of the same lot. They should snick right in and be a thousandth or so deeper than flush...
Now is the time for all good men to get off their rusty dustys...

Wow, thanks for the quick reply! I was using both hands, I will check the go-no-go and get back to you.

Thank you.

I had to send my SR40C back twice to Ruger due to slide issues. There customer service is top notch though and have not had any issues since.

I had the same problem for the first 500 rounds. Then I read a post about it on another gun forum and a guy was talking about how a new extractor fixed his problem. I called Ruger and they agreed to ship one out to me. While I was waiting for the part to arrive I was talking to a buddy of mine at the gun range. He was sure that this was not going to fix my problem. When the part arrived I installed it AND polished the feed ramp thoroughly with a Dremel and polishing compound. I haven't had any problems since then.
