92 yr old WWII vet kills home invader
Somehow I get the impression this vet isn't going to be losing much sleep over this:

Nor should he lose any sleep.
Best part of the article:
"“I was hoping another one would come up — I aimed right for his heart. I didn’t go to war for nothing. I have the right to carry a gun. That’s what I told the police this morning.”
“Was I scared? Was I mad? Hell, no,” Jones said. “It was simple. That man was going to take my life. He was hunting me. I was protecting myself.”
Good for him! I'd buy that man a beer.

Re: 92 yr old WWII vet kills home invader
What I found refreshing is this guy tells it exactly how he feels, no poliitical correct BS. Reminds me of my dad who is retired military, talking back to the TV when I was a kid and some protesters were burning something on a campus " God darned hippie weirdo radical draft dodging finks! Their breath smells, their feet stink and they don't love Jesus!" lmao

My favorite quote of the article that I read.....
"The only way you going to stop this is you have to leave one laying in the grass."
That's how it's done folks!

Re: 92 yr old WWII vet kills home invader
I like this old guys attitude. "{the intruder} is worth no more to me than a groundhog", is what he said. For those of you who are unfamiliar with farming, imagine that he had said "cockroach" , "mosquito", or "lawyer" instead of "groundhog". My uncle, who raises cattle, regularly hunts groundhogs on his property.
Matter of fact, he will shoot any groundhog that he sees on his property, whether he is actively hunting them or not. He'll go as far as excusing himself from the dinner table if he happens to look out the window and see one. Those things are a danger to the cows. Cows can get a broken leg from stepping on a groundhog tunnel.
The burrowing activities of a groundhog are also detrimental to food crops. The burrowing destroys the root systems. A farmer can go broke, and lose everything, on account of groundhogs.
Forgive the mini-lecture on groundhogs. I know we've got some folks here that are unfamiliar with the rural life, and I didn't want the meaning of the groundhog comment to be lost on anyone.

The only thing I did not like was the video caption calling him a "victim". That man is anything but.

Good for him!
But as a general rule, I don't think it's a good idea (unless maybe you're a 92-year-old WWII vet) to say that the the life of the person they just shot means no more than a groundhog.
Don't get me wrong; I agree with him. I just don't think it's smart to say that. It's an open invitation to get "Zimmermaned" by some bleeding heart prosecuting attorney, plaintiff's attorney, politician, or grieving relative of the erstwhile groundhog.

Gun-crazy? Me? I'd say the gun-crazy ones are the ones that don’t HAVE one.

Well I think we need more gun control! He is a prime example. He hit exactly were he aimed, now that's gun control!!! What the gun grabbers are calling gun control is, at best, gun ownership control. It's really just another manifestation of their overwelming desire to control everything that others say or do. Kinda like kindergarteners before they grow up a little!

@ dorminWS; it is Kentucky. There are still a few places where rational thought processes still prevail.

Living as I do within 15 miles of Eastern Kentucky, I am well aware that the law can be a flexible concept there, and so I do not disagree with what you said. When I ventured there as a young man, my pappy always admonished me that I ought not go, but if I was going I should try not to get into any fights, be very careful about poaching on their women, and above all be back across the Virginia line by dark.
My observation is valid in the real world that most of the rest of us must contend with, and perhaps also in the few civilized pockets of Kentucky where they have a horseflesh-driven economy.

I'll heed the advice of yer Pap. I've had family members describe Ky. as foreign but have no personal experience.dorminWS wrote:>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>WRW wrote:@ dorminWS; it is Kentucky. There are still a few places where rational thought processes still prevail.

Oh, I've got oodlins of personal experience; because as a young man I failed to heed my Pappy's advice; particularly about the women, and therefore unavoidably about fighting and being back by nightfall.

In the deep dark hills of eastern Kentucky
That's the place where I trace my bloodline
And it's there I read on a hillside gravestone
You will never leave Harlan alive
Oh, my granddad's dad walked down
Katahrins Mountain
And he asked Tillie Helton to be his bride
Said, won't you walk with me out of the mouth
Of this holler
Or we'll never leave Harlan alive
Where the sun comes up about ten in the morning
And the sun goes down about three in the day
And you fill your cup with whatever bitter brew you're drinking
And you spend your life just thinkin' of how to get away
No one ever knew there was coal in them mountains
'Til a man from the Northeast arrived
Waving hundred dollar bills he said I'll pay ya for your minerals
But he never left Harlan alive
Granny sold out cheap and they moved out west
Of Pineville
To a farm where big Richland River winds
I bet they danced them a jig, laughed and sang a new song
Who said we'd never leave Harlan alive
But the times got hard and tobacco wasn't selling
And ole granddad knew what he'd do to survive
He went and dug for Harlan coal
And sent the money back to granny
But he never left Harlan alive
Where the sun comes up about ten in the morning
And the sun goes down about three in the day
And you fill your cup with whatever bitter brew you're drinking
And you spend your life just thinkin' of how to get away
Where the sun comes up about ten in the morning
And the sun goes down about three in the day
And you fill your cup with whatever bitter brew you're drinking
And you spend your life digging coal from the bottom of your grave
In the deep dark hills of eastern Kentucky
That's the place where I trace my bloodline
And it's there I read on a hillside gravestone
You will never leave Harlan alive

That would be the one. Family lived in some of those 10:00 hollers a ways north of you, so that struck a chord with me.
