Tips to survive a shooter

Post by Geezer »

After last week's shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo., the city of Houston has released a how-to video on surviving a shooter event.
The video was created with funds from the Homeland Security Department.

http://www.federalnewsradio.com/473/296 ... -a-shooter

They recommend the following steps.

1. Run if you can

2. Encourage others to run with you

3. Once out of the line of fire...call 911

4.When hiding turn out the lights and lock the doors

I didn't even bother to watch the video. No need for 4 steps, the following 2 will do nicely

1. Always Carry

2. Shoot the bastard

I think it's a little more complicated than that. It all depends on where you are. Sometimes your best bet would be to run, other times it would be to engage.

Laminate them instructions so they can be referenced in an emergency.

predators seldom think like prey. So when the hunter finds himself hunted, he has to readjust his prioities. While he is adjusting to the situation he is most vulnerable. Also if he is being attacked from multiple directions (crossfire) his fight or flight response may easily cause him to run like the coward he is.

You are right on the money about the predators. When they hunt they don't go for the fastest strongest ones at the front of the pack. They go for the straglers falling behind, cut off from the protection of the herd. They know their prey, their habits, where they congregate, where they will be defenseless. These wolves know where to find the sheep. The sheepdog knows how they both think,he tries to warn the sheep but alot of the time their warnings fall on deaf ears. The sheepdog does not live in the fantasy world of the sheep. He is ready to protect himself, those close to him/her and if need be will do what he can to protect the sheep who have decided not to protect themselves for one reason or another. And for that he will be deamonized, called crazy, persecuted and tried to be made to feel as if he/she is the one who is wrong. :gang:
