In my experience, when carrying a concealed handgun, you tend to remain much more alert and aware of your surroundings and quietly observant to who is around and how they are behaving than you do when your not carrying.
The heightened awareness alone (without even using the weapons)that would be present if concealed carry was allowed everywhere would help prevent violent crimes.

I feel like I'm just as alert when I'm not carrying as I am when I am carrying.
