The National Firearms Museum will be bringing the following exhibit to the next Chantilly gunshow:

It's a Small World (of Guns)

One of the most interesting areas of American gun collecting involves miniature firearms, where a major collection worth many thousands of dollars can easily fit inside a lunch box and sometimes the best of historical designs can be nicely rendered in quarter-scale. At the Chantilly National Capitol Expo Center, in addition to the usual full-sized rifles, pistols and shotguns, the NRA's National Firearms Museum will be exhibiting June 8, 9 and 10 the finest in smaller firepower packages - miniature guns.

NRA's National Firearms Museum recently won part of the international arms race (in small scale) by assembling a group of sixteen amazing wheellock miniatures. Fit to equip a down-sized platoon, these intriguing small arms range from a fine combination rifle built into a crossbow, a wheellock revolver capable of discharging seven shots, a medieval axe/gun, a breechloading pistol, and several ball-butted pistols. There's even one princely pistol built completely out of 14 karat gold!

Just as with the originals, the embellishment of these diminutive arms includes ivory and bone, while gold, silver and bronze highlights are everywhere. In olden days, fine wheellock guns like these were expensive enough that they could only be owned by royalty and nobles. The master gunsmiths that built these pint-sized miniatures did so to show they could provide the same craftsmanship in a smaller package. Journeyman gunsmiths often honed their skills by making miniatures for their final projects as they left their master's shop, reasoning also that the smaller size piece was far easier to transport as they made their way to new employment.

Now on display in the NRA's National Firearms Museum galleries, thanks to lender Kennith Whichard, the wonders of the wheellock mechanism, an early ignition system that worked much like today's Bic lighters, are well represented. During the 1600s, the wheellock design was really the "cutting-edge" of arms technology and looking over unusual pieces in this small collection that include a supplemental cleaver, axe, or halberd, combined with a firearm - one could quickly see that having an additional combat feature available considering the single shot capability that most guns of the day had - really wasn't a bad idea.

It's always fun to be here at the Nation's Gun Show. I hear they are expanding the building for more vendors! Yea! I don't sell guns, I sell log home kits, but work for SWV Firearms (http://www.swvfirearms.com or find us on Facebook). The line wrapped around the corner this morning before they opened, but I think everyone is inside now. Come on down and enjoy!

Has anyone been to this one so far? If so, was it like the last one? Waaaay too busy and lots of non firearm related tables?
I had a SCAR 17 and 16. I also had a bunch of Glocks and a couple H&K pistols. Oh and a DDM4, but I sold everything when our government told me these dangerous tools can actually hurt someone. Apparently they grow legs and go on killing sprees.

I went on Saturday

..with my son. We both were surprized at how light the turn-out seemed to be. we could move around, see the wares and not be bumping to people all the time.

I picked up a nice pistol, :pistol: Private sale. (I am now no longer allowed to go to gun shows without adult supervision. My son doesn't count.)

The usual list of vendors there. overall a good crowd, and a "A-Triple-Plus" experience.
The day they outlaw firearms is the day I become a criminal.

Once again I fall to my daughter prayers and I bought her a nice used Daisy Medalist air rifle at the show. It's time to learn to pencil the right shopping list, like
- Pistol - yes
- D&G purse - NO
- ammo - yes
- more ammo - yes
- versace dress - no
All political power comes from the barrel of a gun. The communist party must command all the guns, that way, no guns can ever be used to command the party - Mao Tse Tung
