Purchased First Gun - Mossberg 500
My wife and I have been shooting at the gun range for a few weeks now and decided to look for a shotgun. We've been renting the Remington 870 Express when at the range and after some research about Remington vs Mossberg I was set on the Remington. The gun show rolled through Richmond over the weekend and we went thinking if we were able to get a deal we'd get one; if not then no biggie. I must say, I was a little disappointed in what I thought was a small size for a gun show, but they had a little bit for everyone.
Found one dealer with a 870, but noticed that I'd have to tap my own rail mount (or have someone else do it). In all my research I did not even notice that about the Remington. We saw another dealer with a Remington 887 for $500 which came with a rail and a choke. I told my wife we could either get the 870 for $400 and dump $100 into the extras or get the 887 for $500 and it's already set the way we want. The gun was not comfortable for her and she didn't like the larger forearm so we passed up on the 887. We did find a few dealers selling Mossberg 500s so we took a look and liked what we saw. Already had the mount tapped to easily add a rail and the position of the action release lever was handy for me as a lefty. We ended up buying a Mossberg 500 Persuader from Gary's Guns and although my paperwork was delayed, everything cleared and I was able to pick it up a few days later. I knew going in that I would be happy with either gun but it's amazing that you have a plan going in to get a specific gun and leave with a different gun. Woohoo!

Congrats on the Mossy 500. Mine has been as reliable as the sunrise.

Welcome to the Mossy group!
I really like my M590A1, basically a combat-spec 500. Eats everything I feed it! 8+1 capacity. Built like a tank. Really love the reaction I get from folks I let shoot it who aren't used to pump guns... 3" magnum rifled slugs really get your attention!

congrats on the Mossy! Have fun patterning different loads, etc. I was amazed at how some brands didn't pattern well at all. My 590a1 is crazy accurate with rifled slugs too!

Yep, they sure are. Funny story about that - our first targets were only 20 feet away and when I saw three holes in the target after just one shot it took a minute for me to realize two holes were from the WADDING!Diomed wrote:They still slug-only for shotguns?N0VA wrote:My son and I will be at the NRA Headquarters range tomorrow morning with our Home Defense gun.

BRA allows 00 buckshot if you want to pattern that.
Re: Purchased First Gun - Mossberg 500
Where is, and what is BRA? (assuming its a gun range)
