G19 gen 2 six part upgrade
G19 gen 2 six part upgrade
Hi all,
I just got a brand new G19 gen 2, made around 1989 according to SN letters, this gun is awesome. I was searching in the internet and discovered that back in 92 Glock made an "upgrade" of six parts: Extractor, Spring-loaded bearing, Firing pin safety and spring, Firing pin / striker and Trigger bar.
I called Glock and they told me that they can upgrade it for free but i have to send it overnight throughout Fedex or UPS to Smyrna or i can go to a gssf tournament and they can upgrade it there.
My questions are, are this upgrade really necessary. Can any Glock armorer do it and what would be the cost. i am in NOVA, Fairfax County.
Thank you all for your help.

Your Gen 2 is perfect as-is. Leave it, IMHO. I have a Gen 1 G17 and it's stock (lies, I replaced an 8 lb trigger with a 3.5)
Re: G19 gen 2 six part upgrade
its not necessary. Personal preference really. Most people will change the trigger parts at the most.
Re: G19 gen 2 six part upgrade
Thank you all for your reply, so far i have shoot around 750 rounds and not a problem. I order a beavertail, an extended magazine release and an extended slide stop lever; i have big hands.
The only thing that annoys me is the half round shape cut on the base, do you have any trick to deal with this???

Re: G19 gen 2 six part upgrade
are you talking about on the trigger guard? getting a case of glock finger on your middle finger? A dremel does the trick
Re: G19 gen 2 six part upgrade
No i'm talking about the semi-circular cut-out in the frontstrap of the grip.
Re: G19 gen 2 six part upgrade
I have a Gen 2 Glock 19 and the cut out at the base of the grip bothers me some too. I don't have a work around for it - I just live with it. Not surprisingly, It's not present in later generation Glock 19s.lapicito wrote:No i'm talking about the semi-circular cut-out in the frontstrap of the grip.

Look up grip plug. They fit right in and plug up that hole. Btw, glocks are very easy to work on, but if you don't feel confident in your abilities any glock certified armored can do whatever you need to it. I do all the work to my three. In my G30 I've done the extended slide release, grip plug, maritime striker spring cups, custom back plate, front night site, and some pierce magazine base plates. For my 26 I have done extended slide release, magazine release, and slide take down lever. As well as front nite site, extended mag plates, and grip plug. I have also done quite a bit to my 19. I've probably done more but cannot remember at the moment.
My 19 is a second generation too. Great weapon for OC or CC! My EDC is my 30 as it is a .45 and my fiancé carries the 26(9mm). Both of these are 3rd gen.
Depending on how many rounds have been fired out of that thing, it may behoove you to actually get the updates especially if they are free. Just saying..... It can only make it better ya know. I know GLOCK pistols very, very well as you'll find that I am a GLOCK advocate, so if you need any help just let me know.

I had a SCAR 17 and 16. I also had a bunch of Glocks and a couple H&K pistols. Oh and a DDM4, but I sold everything when our government told me these dangerous tools can actually hurt someone. Apparently they grow legs and go on killing sprees.
Re: G19 gen 2 six part upgrade
Not the issue - it's the the semi-circular cut-out on the frontstrap, bottom of the grip.scrubber3 wrote:Look up grip plug. They fit right in and plug up that hole.

Maybe someone already said it, but that actually helps guide that magazine in IIRC. I think you may be able to find a grip base that can actually cover the whole bottom part. They sell it with the premise that it allows faster magazine loading. It was designed for competition shooting.

Re: G19 gen 2 six part upgrade
This frontstrap cut-out was to make removing a stuck magazine easier by allowing one to get a better purchase on the base of the magazine. The problem is it bites into your little finger as you grip the pistol during firing. Although a tactically smart design feature, enough people complained so Glock eliminated this feature in subsequent gen 3 and gen 4 Glock compact frames.scrubber3 wrote:Maybe someone already said it, but that actually helps guide that magazine in IIRC. A competition add-on mag well might work to cover the cut out. It would be an oddity on a Glock 19 though.

Re: G19 gen 2 six part upgrade
Are you talking about the Pearce (PG-FML) Grip Enhancer, the one that replace the base plate of the magazine???
Thanks
Thanks
Re: G19 gen 2 six part upgrade
No; the add-on mag well is attached to the grip and provides a wide opening to ease and speed mag loading.lapicito wrote:Are you talking about the Pearce (PG-FML) Grip Enhancer, the one that replace the base plate of the magazine???

A video, and to my surprise for a Glock 19:

Re: G19 gen 2 six part upgrade
But that covers the cut-out completely, i know it can cover it partially but it is wide enough?
How comfortable is?

Re: G19 gen 2 six part upgrade
Sorry i dint see the video, according to the video this should cover the cut-out, if i assume that the lower part of grip on the g19 g2 and the g3 are the same with the exception of the cut-out and the finger groove.
Anyone have a gen 2 with a magwell, does this cover it???

Re: G19 gen 2 six part upgrade
Sorry, I don't know; never used one. All my pistols are pretty much stock externally. I do recommend that you check before ordering one and ask the vendor if it will properly fit your 2nd Gen Glock 19 as the base of grip is different from a Gen 3 or Gen 4 Glock 19.lapicito wrote:But that covers the cut-out completely, i know it can cover it partially but it is wide enough?

Re: G19 gen 2 six part upgrade
Interesting, I'd just figured it was for making pulling out the old non-drop-free mags a little easier.Chasbo00 wrote:This frontstrap cut-out was to make removing a stuck magazine easier by allowing one to get a better purchase on the base of the magazine.
Re: G19 gen 2 six part upgrade
You are correct; early mags were not drop free. I call those stuck too.Diomed wrote:Interesting, I'd just figured it was for making pulling out the old non-drop-free mags a little easier.Chasbo00 wrote:This frontstrap cut-out was to make removing a stuck magazine easier by allowing one to get a better purchase on the base of the magazine.
