Two new guns, anything I should know about them?

Post by gtijohn »

To make a long story short. My father was visiting from out west and he left me with two new guns.

Gun #1 Smith and Wesson 681. Is there anything I should know about this gun. This is my first revolver.

Gun #2 Rossi R92-56008. Lever action, .357 mag, 16" barrel. Same with this rifle, anything in particular I should be aware of?

Both are in excellent condition, the rifle has not even been fired yet. I will post some pictures tomorrow.

thanks for looking,

Don't put any part of your body that you want to keep attached forward of the cylinder/barrel gap.

Autoloader guys tend to do two thumbs forward along the side of the cylinder, and that's bad.

The "what should I know" is really broad to answer effectively. If you have SPECIFIC questions, or even something that is a little more focused will get you a much better answer.

thanks, that is actually helpful. I have not shot a revolver in a few decades.

I guess what I should have asked is, do either of these weapons have known issues or safety concerns that I should keep an eye out for.

thanks again,

Yes, that S&W will hunt you down at night while you are sleeping. I suggest you send it to me to protect you from it. I won't even charge you anything for my services! :hysterical:

I don't know of any real issues with either firearm, but I'd suggest you clean the Rossi before firing since it hasn't been shot yet. Check the barrels for obstructions in case a family of spiders decided to take up residence in it.

I was going to tell him a similar story about the .357 lever action! *snicker*
