Considering this thread in conjunction with the poll on late relatives...

Ah - yeah - doing fine. The other thread with the poll is mostly unrelated. It's an ongoing discussion between TheWife and I.

Just remember you always have
here
& when you do have one of those "days" don't be afraid to go to the range and let of some steam

I invite everyone to come to the range with me. It's as simple as letting me know what day you want to meet up.

Yeah, I can relate. This has been one of those weeks.
Too many deadlines -- Not enough me to get to them all.
Maybe I should spend less time on the internets

Schools been closed for a week, we have four kids, the oldest is five, and I work from home, and my wife is recovering from major knee surgery so she is not as helpful as usual.

Re: Do you ever just have one of those days?
I did yesterday.
Ya'll know that Browning SA-22 I was bragging about?
I took it out of the box for the first time yesterday evening thinking I might plink some this weekend and turned it over. The stock was cracked. I had just peeled a sticker off the stock warning that holding the gun by its stock to twist the barrel on might result in cracking the stock. I didn't do it. The dealer I got it from had opened it and looked at it, but I know damned well if they'd broken it they wouldn't have given it to me. They said to bring it to them and they's send it back and try to make it right. Maybe it happened at the distributor's. Or maybe somebody at the factory screwed up and swept it under the rug or just missed a defect. But I figure when I send it back, they'll say it was me.
We'll see.

I woke up.
Not particularly in pain.
It's Friday.
Commuted down 95 and didn't get run off the road, squashed like a bug, or shot at.
It's a pretty good day.
I can really appreciate your status though. They're not always like this.

Re: Do you ever just have one of those days?
Yes, Yes I am. I was about to write something about it.
Found out the beginning of March I was diabetic. Radically changed my diet, my exercise regime, and got the meds. I went on the paleo-diet (Grilled/seared meats, no processed foods, raw/broiled/grilled veggies. No taters, no rice, no biscuits...) Dropped 40 lbs in 60 days, cleared with the foot doc, the eye doc, and even my doc was impressed with my overall blood sugar numbers...
Went to a cardiologist for the first time yesterday. Bastage busted my "good mood" (reg doc talked about me coming back in 90 days to get OFF the diabetic meds!), he put me on YET ANOTHER med, and asked me to lose "100 lbs".
(expletives left out because this is a family site) So in less than a year, i went from being "perfectly fine" to on 2 maintenance meds, an 81 mg Aspirin, AND AGAIN! NO frakin' taters, NO frakin' BISCUITS, NO frakin' GRAVY! (Flour= carbs, Carbs= sugar, sugar ez dey debil)
Asking a Southern man to give up biscuits is like asking a gold fish to give up water for a spray bottle.
Bluntly, I'm down brotha... I'm really seriously beat up about this. People are telling me I look "healthy", but I would stab a sumbeyatch in the neck for guilt-free biscuits and gravy with a dessert of Ukrops sheet cake with an extra rose, and a scoop of vanilla hagen-daaz.
Sorry for venting, but in 90 days my world is upside down, and I went from being a "man" to a "MIDDLE AGED MAN"... And I friggin' hate it.

Re: Do you ever just have one of those days?
Rev,
That's a pretty tough deal. Wish there was something I could say, but it would all be stupid and probably just make you madder and/or downer. I don't have sugar, but I am way too heavy because my spinal injury makes me pretty much unable to get any meaningful exercise but mandates I lose weight, so that and the fact that SWMBO is skating along the ragged edge of diabetes means that while we ain't in the same boat we're on similar voyages. Life without biscuits and gravy is no picnic, but you can live without them - I pretty much do. Taters is a bigger problem. Turnips, cauliflour, and beets baked like a potato help me to get by. The unkindest cut of all, however, is that I very seldom get any CORNPONE. Now THAT'S a disaster to a Hillbilly.

(shrugs) Yeah, no corn bread (starch=Carbs, etc, etc) And I loves me some beans with rice, and andouille sausage... Can't have that because of the rice (Etc, etc) But Pone with fatback, taters, and a pile of cheese scrambled eggs? That's a breakfast!
Funny...
When I was younger, and someone said "At the end of the world, what are you gonna do?" It was about scrumpin' some hottie, with a big glass of bourbon.
Now?
It's "I'm frakin' eatin' biscuits, and sausage gravy with some fried taters n'onions, and having a HUGE piece of Ukrops sheet cake with ice cream"

Re: Do you ever just have one of those days?
I was diagnosed with T2 5 years ago. I found a good substitute for the bread, takes a bit of getting used to but is very healthy too.Reverenddel wrote:(shrugs) Yeah, no corn bread (starch=Carbs, etc, etc) And I loves me some beans with rice, and andouille sausage... I grind flax seeds in the coffee grinder to a meal consistancy also grind up some steel rolled oats to about the same consistancy.
I mix 3 tablespoons of flax meal with one tablespoon of rolled oats, a teaspoon full of baking power and whatever spices you like. I use red pepper and whatever I can find in the cabinet while I'm half asleep. You can use a real egg or one of the egg substutes to mix the stuff together into a thick paste. You can fry it in a little olive oil or nuke it in the microvave.
Has a little nutty taste with a cornbread texture. Add a few blueberrys and some sugar free syrup and it makes a sweeeeeeet pancake.
Pretty low carb count if you just use a small amount of the oats and I guarantee you'll never worry about whether you're getting enough fiber!!!

Re: Do you ever just have one of those days?
NICE! Heard about flax seed. Since my blood sugars are extraordinary low as of late, I have afforded a granola bar for med purposes with the Metformin...
The weirdest part? After experimenting for the past 60 days, white bread does NOT bump up my sugars... but I eat a scoop of white rice? Like a frickin' Bottle rocket.
Still irritated at the heart doctor/my doctor about the statin. It gives me headaches, and makes me cranky...I ain't good "cranky".

Re: Do you ever just have one of those days?
Could be worse...my son is 16, he was diagnosed with type 1 (insulin dependent) diabetes 4 years ago. To me, there is nothing worse than watching a child have to check their blood sugar and give them self an injection. He has since "graduated" to an insulin pump that he has to change his infusion site every few days. That's IF he doesn't run out of insulin in the pump first!
Neither type of diabetes is fun, but he would gladly trade places with a type 2.

I'll thank you to quit postin' them indecent fantasies, sir. It's hard enough for an unreformed and unrepentant but paroled sinner to try to do right enough to stay alive without such temptations!
