Custom discreet carry rifle/shotgun case

Post by m4a1mustang »

Spent a bit of time today putting together a discreet carry case to take my shotgun to the range. I used a really nice acoustic gig bag that I bought from Guitar Center, some 1" thick foam from Wal-Mart (used 3 layers of it), a sheet of thick project display board, and some fabric from Jo-Ann Fabrics. The end result:

The interior might not be the prettiest, but it sure does get the job done.

Double yore trouble...a hippie probably wouldnt steal a shotgun case but they'll smell that guitar case and blammo...quicker n you can say long hair pinko fag...you done lost it...

On a more serious note, if you care to spend a few more bucks and get a decent hard shell most of them will also do a great job keeping the humidity constant...for my guitars I want it up there a bit but you can throw desiccant in one and it will keep that gun nice and dry...

If I decide to use a instrument case for permanent storage I'll likely get a hard case.

I'm not worried about theft at all, I just want to keep the neighbors happy.

Never work for me - I can see it now, I walk up on stage for church music practice, and zip it open - a scene straight out of "Desperado".

Ah yes, Fairfax I see. I'm over in Springfield and make sure the neighbors see my gun cases, camo dress, 2A sign on the door, etc. No one blinks here in the neighborhood but open carry around town is a different story. If you do decide on a hard case for perm storage they make several models that are specifically to control humidity. Relatively inexpensive too. GC has them. I've got one and it does a decent job. Seams to have a good seal on it.

Good job! I use a softshell PRS case that is already very tight. The front pouch is perfect for mags and ammo!

That's interesting - I am of the opposite persuasion on this issue. If my neighbors see me carrying a rifle case from my house to my truck, and they have some kind of problem with it, well, that's exactly what it is - their problem.

I guess maybe I can't see how catching the sight of me carrying a gun case between my vehicle and my house could make any of my neighbors "unhappy" - and if it does, see first paragraph immediately above. Not my problem.

Another thought about neighbors - as if the NRA Endowment Member sticker on my truck wouldn't be enough of a give-away...

It would be your problem if a) one of their friends were over and b) if that friend was a thief. My closest neighbors all know I own a few firearms, although they probably don't know how many  I'd rather not advertise I have the arsenal that I do. I need to update that, too.

My neighbors can see me carrying my guns all day. Goodluck getting my safe open while I'm at work. They'll probably still be working on it when I get home.
