I went to the show today and didn't even pull into the parking lot. Unbelievable, and it was the same story a month ago at the raceway show. When I started seeing gun related TV shows and hearing that gun sales were on the rise I thought cool finally the hobby I enjoy, that is often maligned, is becoming mainstream. Now, huge lines at gun shows, and soaring gun prices have me thinking otherwise. Thanks a lot Doomsday Preppers!!!! Seriously though, just thought I'd gripe a little, hope some of you found some deals or made some money, wish I'd had something to sell today.
I went to one at the Showplace and one at the Raceway. I don't recall long lines but I stopped going because I never have any money once I'm inside!

Went there. Just me and the four little ones. Husband was off umpiring at longwood.if anyone saw me I wasthe crazy lady with a 11 week old in a purple sling, two kids in a double stroller, and a 6 year old on the side. Gun prices were as high or higher than the store so no gun purchase, but I did pick up some pretty cool knives. Including one that masquerades as a comb. Additionally, I re-upped my NRA membership. Two extremely kind gentlemen helped me out entertaining my little ones for alf an hour or so. I was so thankful! Always meet the kindest people at gun shows.

My nephew went but I heard the lines were so long he didn't even try to get in, he just turned around and went home.
I'm going up there today with my son. I really want to get in but I won't stand in line half the day and then fight the crowd's inside if it's really crazy.
It is a presidential election year.
Obama was voted the best gun salesman of the year in 2008.
Looks like he is on the way to winning that award again.
Worked that show Saturday, Here's the skinny:
09:00 the line was down the side of the building, into the parking lot, and almost to the street...
12:45 took the last 15 minutes of my shift to check on two items, took 30 mins to walk 30 feet.
13:00 line was STILL down the side of the building, doors had NEVER shut since opening. Fire Marshall was there, due to the volume of folks, they had to make an alternate EXIT because no one could WALK OUT with the volumes coming IN.
15:05 the line ended, and the doors could be closed.
Why? Here's my theory: No hunting, No NASCAR, No big sports, tax refunds, and pay days, hype on elections, and doomsday. But in truth? I hadn't seen this kinda business even AFTER Obama got elected!
And I held off on buying anything, because the wait at that point on background checks was over an hour to 3 hours... "Instant" my azz!
Was there both sat and Sunday. Sat was nuts, insane, but I was still able to get around with a double stroller after 3 pm. Sunday it was still busy, but it was lovely. My DH and I were able to obtain a pretty little Karh for CHL carry.

Are you SURE you ought to be carrying? If that wuz me, I'd be ready to kill indiscriminately after about 10 minutes. Don't know how you mommas hold it together.

Gun-crazy? Me? I'd say the gun-crazy ones are the ones that don’t HAVE one.
You know I was a teacher in a private school that catered to inner city kids. Soooo, after that trial by fire, being a mom to four little kids is not too much of a strain on my psyche. Now raising them up in the knowledge and admonition of the Lord keeps me on my knees.
Do I recommend taking four kids (6 and under) to the gun show by yourself. No, that was rather hard.

I was at the show as well. I think the trick is to get there early to get decent parking. Arrived at 8:30 Sat. and was in the line past the end of the building... sheesh! But - the line moves quickly when it first opens so I was in pretty fast and since a billion people haven't piled in yet - it gives you a chance to get around before it's wall to wall folks....not too long though before it's clogged...When I left at 11:00 is was an absolute zoo!
I wouldn't think of trying to get in after 10:00...just too clogged up.
