Post by VaGunTrader »

Tuesday (tomorrow/Valentines Day) is when all gun owners are asked to help out with the counter-protest at Starbucks. Just show up at your local Starbucks and make a purchase.

Headed there now. Believe it or not, I am 29 years old and have never set foot in one. Today will be my first time facing the mocha latte menu that I am sure to be bedazzled by, but I am going. Sidearm with me, as always.

I bought a Coffee Traveler and took it to the job site where my home is being built. I also had a Bacon & Gouda Artisan Breakfast Sandwich that was, sadly, pretty pedestrian. I make a better breakfast sandwich at home.

There was only a drywall crew and superintendent working today so I took the rest to the office.

Landstown Commons location in Virginia Beach seemed to be doing a brisk business at 7:30 this morning despite the 'boycott'.

I have learned to ignore the menu entirely. I ask for a "small basic coffee". Of course, they apparently have a small variety of basic coffee, so when they ask which one I want, I say "As long as it has caffeine, I don't care. Surprise me."

It is possible to ignore the whole Starbucks lingo silliness and still successfully order an over priced coffee.

"[Size: tall, grande, venti] coffee (Pikes Place is their "always available" signature brew, then they have a bold selection that changes quite often) with room for cream (or not)" is all you need to say. They have decaf, of course, but only before lunch. After, you have to order a "decaf Americano", which is basically shots of espresso in a cup of hot water. It tastes pretty good.

The last time I had a "foo foo" drink at Starbucks was about 5 years ago when I was dating a girl that worked there, and she'd shove a free caramel macchiato in my face when I'd go see her.

I refuse to use the word "tall" in place of the word "small". The two words have very different meanings, and I will not participate in further destroying the already badly abused English language.

Also, the phrase "basic coffee" seems to get the message across, just fine, in regard to what I would like to purchase.

I do appreciate your attempt to educate me in the field of uppity, hipster coffee lingo, and I do hope that you will forgive my complete lack of interest in the subject.
