New member in Fredericksburg.
Hello all!
I'm retired U.S Army and have been carrying concealed for close to a year now. Normally I deep conceal with an inside the waist holster but this days business demanded fitted dress pants that would not accommodate it so I went for a standard holster with a long jacket. A young woman in a local restaurant noticed my sidearm as I was standing up and approached me and asked me "Why do you carry a pistol?" I informed her that I had a responsibility to protect myself and others if the situation demanded it. She assumed I was a law enforcement officer and stated " I'm glad you're not one of those crazies". More than anything else her final statement is what prompted me to join your assemblage. We have a large number of citizens in our commonwealth who cannot fathom that they are empowered to defend themselves from the criminal element. I found this site while doing separate research and the wealth of information it offers is extraordinary. The next time I am asked why I carry I plan on incorporating the wisdom I read here into my reply. Be well each of you.
Carry safely and proudly,
Caleb

Re: New member in Fredericksburg.
There are many folks here, some of whom I work with on a daily basis, who think an armed citizen is a threat. I do what I can to inform and educate that each of us has a right and an obligation to preserve life when threatened by a criminal element. Some folks go "I didn't think of it in that way" others think "Only the government should be armed so we can all be safe." Either way folks need to be informed. Right now in Fredericksburg, Va the local LEO's are all about responsible citizens carrying. I've spoken to more than a few who espouse the view that a responsibly armed citizen is a benefit not a hazard. There is; however, an undercurrent tone in the civilian population here that anyone who carries is either a survivalist kook or a terrorist.AdmiralG26 wrote:Welcome! Welcome from King George. Luckily, I've only met a couple of people that I won't say are anti-gun, they just don't understand why someone would carry. I try to educate them, but it doesn't always work.
