Karzai condemns video of urination on corpses
Here's the story. It's running on Yahoo under the headline: "Outcry grows over 'shocking' Marine video".
http://news.yahoo.com/karzai-condemns-v ... 58800.html
I just want to say I also disapprove. This should NEVER have been allowed to happen. I think our guys should be ashamed of stooping this low.....................
..............Dead Talibans ain't WORTHY of having our guys p!ss on them.

What that wasn't a latrine? I see your point about being distasteful but I won't lose sleep over it. Its a shame there was no bacon available though, it would have changed the whole video.

Matt Drudge keeps it simple with the best headline of the day. The White House will be all wee-wee'd up over this one

Unfortunately, those poor guys will probably be hammered over PC non-issue. I guess all the atrocities afforded to Westerners is ok.

Re: Karzai condemns video of urination on corpses
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall Karzai or other Muslim leaders raising objections to the beheading of Daniel Pearl and Nick Berg. In fact, they were televised for the Arab masses to enjoy, much as we broadcast NFL football games. I remember seeing videos of hundreds of Palestinians watching and cheering as the WTC towers fell.
Yet we're supposed to be upset at Marines pissing on corpses? Yeah, right.

Re: Karzai condemns video of urination on corpses
I'm a bit mystified by some of the cavalier comments about this incident. I keep thinking that most of the people who frequent this site are veterans, and not a few are combat veterans. With that as a backdrop here goes.
1. To accept the desecration of an enemy body by a few Marines, smears all Marines who would never do such a thing. Is this the sign of honorable, well trained and disciplined American fighting men? In reading other sites where active duty and veterans frequent they are furious with these Marines and believe that they should be prosecuted.
2. If the act itself was stupid and juvenile, it was even dumber to video or take pics. Rule number 1 in today's world is: If you photograph something you know to be wrong you can bet that it will appear on You Tube very soon.
3. The Marines knew that what they were doing was wrong and a criminal act under their system of justice.
4. For you combat veterans who may have witnessed atrocities done to your fellow comrades, or heard about one, or saw it in the news; did that fact make you fight harder, with more resolve, or did it have absolutely no effect on you at all? Based on normal human emotions my guess is that it made you determined to get even, to fight harder than ever before. Now I don't know who these Marines are, but if I could ask them anything it would be the following: Aren't the Taliban fighting hard enough for you? Do you think pissing on their dead comrades will make them less likely to fight, or to give in when they come in contact? Why on earth would you give an incentive for the Taliban to fight even harder? Finally, for those young Afghans sitting on the fence between supporting the U.S. or the Taliban do you think your actions helps, or hurts the U.S. cause?
Finally it does not matter what the Taliban does, we are not comparable to them. Would anyone here excuse Taliban fighters if they had done the same act? Why would we compare and contrast the actions of 4 of our fighting men with those who behave like savages?
For me this is the final straw. It's odd that the assessment on where we stand in the Afghan-Pak War came out the same week as this incident made its way to You Tube. The report concluded that essentially the war is a stalemate. It will continue to be a stalemate unless we are willing to do a massive escalation that would require mobilization and sacrifice by every citizen not just the less than 1% who are sacrificing now. After that, and maybe 40 years if we're lucky Afghanistan would resemble Pakistan.
Since that would bankrupt us as a nation it ain't going to happen, so make the best deal we can, and get the hell out with one proviso. While we are officially gone we will not tolerate and will preempt any action against our nation, and yes we do have ways to get to you without a massive military foot print on the ground.

Not defending what they did...it was stupid. But a lot of people think we should fight a nice polite war against a bunch of savages. Aint happening.

Afganistan
Russia? Nerp.
US? Nerp.
I say let China take a whack at it... They need all those cool minerals for cheap gadgets anyway.
Oh, and we ARE better than that - and telling everybody will win them over really quick, too!

And that mentality Rich ensures that we will make more enemies than friends. The actions of those Marines didn't have a damn thing to do with fighting the war. It was not courageous, or brave, it was just stupid. They dishonored themselves, their fellow Marines, and their country.

And that dumb diatribe by Congressman West is exactly why he is EX LTC West. The Army drummed his ass out of the military because he was a disgrace. Thank God he's no longer in a position to affect young soldiers.
He is one of the reasons Congress is held in such low regard. If the FL legislature did not Gerrymander his district to ensure that it is non competitive. We could be calling him EX Congressman West next year.

Gat6, when Col. West said “As for everyone else, unless you have been shot at by the Taliban, shut your mouth, war is hell.”, I'm pretty sure he was talking about you.

Hmmm..on one hand, Gat is right, this creates problems. On the other hand, they hate our guts anyway, so, can it get worse? Probably not.
Desecrating corpses is actually a no-no under the Geneva convention, in which case these guys did break the rules our military operates under. I can't muster moral outrage for this because I genuinely don't care if a few Taliban corpses got the first shower in their lives, but it was a stupid thing to do on film with their faces showing.
Bottom line? Give them a slap on the wrist (which they did earn sadly) and move on.

Re: Karzai condemns video of urination on corpses
As a retired Marine, I am ashamed for the lack of training and discipline these Marines have displayed. Actions like these should never be documented. have your fun, enjoy the moment but never ever document your crime. They should have learned better in boot camp. These are the kind of antics I expect from the army.
or as my wife says, "say what you will, but once it is on paper or the internet, it lives forever and will come back to haunt you".
and as for you that site the Geneva Convention, the taliban doesn't play by the rules so we shouldn't be held to that standard.
