Looking for suggestions on a compact concealed carry firearm

As the title says Im looking for concealed carry pistol.I currently have a SR1911 and looking for something,smaller and lighter.This is what Im looking for, something light weight,reliable, and with a manual safety. I love the look and feel of the Ruger LC9. I like the weight, shape, and size. I don't like the long trigger pull,the round indicator popup thing on top, and it doesn't have a manual safety.

Correction the LC9 does have a thumb safety. I was thinking about the LCP. But i don't like the mag disconnect.

The S&W J-frame in its many flavors comes to mind as a perpetually relevant compact gun, especially with a couple of speed strips handy. The Kahr does well for autos. Either gun does well with an ankle or pocket rig. I couldn't speak to a gun with a manual safety on a defensive handgun, because that is a disqualifier for membership in my gun safe.

I enjoy the Taurus PT709 I just bought. Haven't invested a lot of carrying hours, but for the time I did put in, it's been very comfortable. The shorter grip keeps from poking any of my spare tire when carrying IWB and there is very little imprint with it's slim design.

so many options, going to be hard to give random recommendations. the best answer is go shoot different ones and see what feel right.

Sadly, most ranges don't rent the tiny guns because they aren't meant for thousands of rounds. I have a Keltec PF9 I wear constantly, my wife doesn't even notice unless she's checking my front pocket for something.

I concur. Its a great gun, but the sights are not ready to go out of the box. Mine shot way to the left.

On topic, your dress style, body shape, and even posture will determine whats best for you. Manual safety requirement is also smart. I don't care that some people mock them, I'd rather have it for total peace of mind that I wont neuter myself or blast my femoral artery by accident. It does happen.

You should be able to train yourself via muscle memory to disengage the safety in a split second whenever you draw it.

The kel-tec PF9 is also a comfy concealed carrier, but was too small for my hands. cant recall if it had a manual safety.

I have a Para Ord OPS, which evidently they no longer make. But it's a 3.5-inch .45 ACP 1911 SA, which I totally love. Shortly after I bought it, they came out with their LDA trigger series. I might get myself one of those some day. I would not hesitate to recommend one of those.

But as someone said above, go handle some and see what feels good to you.

I had a LDA gun, two in fact. The first one was replaced under warranty because I dropped it. Three feet on to carpet and bang, the trigger system was wrecked. Any handgun that can't take being dropped three feet on to a padded surface is defective in my judgement. I couldn't trust the replacement and eventually sold it.

LDAs are fine for target guns, but not for serious work.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Today I walked in to LGS and they had 2 taurus 709 slims in stock, one was marked at 389.99 and one was marked 319.99, both were brand new in the box and the same gun. I asked why the difference in price and after checking and a few min the owner came back and said they miss priced the one for 319.99 and that If i wanted it they would sell it to me for that, but if i left it would go back to 389.99. So I said ill take it. I think this was a good deal and I hope I didn't get duped. Ill have to wait till tomorrow to see how it shoots, but I like the feel of it. The trigger might take some getting used to,but I think it will work fine. Thanks again for all the help and input.

I am happy with my Taurus. From the research I did it seems to be a bit of a crap shoot as to wheather or not you get a good one. Mine has been flawless. I liked the ergonomics and the trigger better than the others in the price range. Good luck with yours.

Mine has worked well so far. Haven't seen the dreaded FTE as everyone has described. I love the feel of it (or lack thereof) when concealed. I like it!
