After you take the class you bring a copy of the certificate and fingerprint image to the courthouse in the county you live in. Some counties don't require fingerprinting some do. It takes 45 days to receive your CCW or CHP as you call it. If on the 46th day you still do not have your permit go to clerk's office and they must issue you a temporary one. But usually there's no problem with getting it on time. Make sure you have your I D with you as you will need it.

VA does not issue a CCW - only the CHP.
