Help with Form 1

Post by bryanrheem »

I'm finally embarking on my Mp5k clone SBR project. I have a CA89k pistol that I'm going to file a form 1 for. I do have a question. When you were building a SBR, how do you fill out your form 1. Specifically, the overall length. Is it ok to purchase the stock to pre-measure (w/o installing it) or do you just guesstimate the full length from the dimensions of the stock plus the pistol?

I was thinking to purchase the stock now to get an accurate measurement but keep it at a different location until my form 1 is approved. Thoughts?

Thanks!

Just guesstimate it. Exact measurements are unnecessary.

An accurate guess should be fine. When i did mine i measured the stock and added the specs from the manf website for my upper. Measure the pistol then add the stock length from a website. Consider a SBR with an adjustable stock, which is the right measurement.

thanks for the feedback... about to embark on process of doing 2 form 1s together and thinking about throwing in another form 4 just for good measure. It's a wait to get the county sheriff's autograph so I figure I'll just do it all at once. I'm going to two do 2 SBRs (USC/UMP conversion & CA89k) and a suppressor (something for my 700 SPS that I could also slap on my LWRC SPR).

Another question. I'm filling my Form 1s as an individual. Box 8 is 'Name and Title of Authorized Official of Firm or Corporation (if applicable)'. I've seen examples where people are putting their names but I am not sure. My initial guess is NO since my name is already in box 3b.

Any thoughts?

Are you a firm or corporation? No? Then it's not applicable.

In inches

If you are building a clone of a well known firearm, and you know yours is going to be close go with the published measurements.

Thats what I've don't for all mine. I'm assuming being off a small amount is not a huge deal.
Now consider the AR situation....

I get a AR lower approved with a 14.0" bbl. I can swap a 6" bbl and don't have to file a new form 1.
Is it ok to purchase the stock to pre-measure (w/o installing it) or do you just guesstimate the full length from the dimensions of the stock plus the pistol?
If you have part(s) in your possession that can only be assembled in an unapproved configuration than you have a violation. It is called constructive possession.... and is illegal.
I was thinking to purchase the stock now to get an accurate measurement but keep it at a different location until my form 1 is approved. Thoughts?
I would advise you do not buy the parts until your forms are approved. Its a small risk, but the down side of getting into a problem is very large.

Submitted my 2 Form 1s to the Sheriff this AM. Last time it took them 4 weeks to get it back so we'll see how long it takes them this time. Excited to get my SBR projects underway! Next item: AAC silencer!

which county are you in bryanrheem? I would like to add it to my list as a "yes" county on my website if I don't already have it. http://immortalarms.com/NFAinfo.html

Which AAC are you interested in?

Immortal,

I'm in Fairfax County which you've already listed as a 'Yes' on your site.

As far as the AAC, I'm not quite sure yet as I need to start my research now. It'll be something that will be on both my 700 SPS in .308 and my LWRC SPR in 5.56.

The 762-SD on a 51T Blackout mount will certainly work for both of those. You may also want to look at the YHM Phantom Ti. Amazing light can with a great mount/flash hider.

Checks cashed by BATF on Friday and Monday! We're getting closer!

I just need to get my CA89k engraved by Mike @ TSC Machines. Unfortunately, he won't thread the barrel so I'll have to eventually ship that out to get threaded somewhere that can do it attached to the receiver.

USC receiver was engraved when HDPS did the UMP conversion. Barrel is going to be cut and threaded by Tornado Technologies and I already have an Osprey45 in hand.

I can't wait!

Have you looked into how much that will cost? I ask because I was trying to help a friend put together a MP5 clone build, and the price of barrel threading, even for the three lug, was insane. And that was on one of the Turkish imports, which is usually going to be a lot closer to spec than one of the domestic clones.

It won't be that much more than to thread a regular barrel. Over on the hkpro forums, there are several people that can thread the barrel while still in the receiver. It would just cost more to ship from an FFL.

I got a few back about a month ago, it was a 6.5 month wait. Buddy submitted his about 2 weeks after me, still hasn't heard back, he is getting close to the 8 month mark.
