Penninsula Gun Club?
Penninsula Gun Club?
Wondering if there's already a gun club in existence in the Newport News area? If not would anyone else be interested in starting one? It'd be nice to have some people to go to the range with.

Thanks Yarddawg, definatly going to have to check that out.
Igkmrk1608, we should see if we can't stir up some interest and maybe get some people together to shoot at The Marksman. Particularly on the 1st or 15th of the month because the range fee is free on those days because I'm a reservist. Of course I think there's also a range over on Mercury in Hampton but I haven't checked that one out yet.

I am a member of the club too. I do all my shooting there. As a matter of fact, I was there this morning.

Superior Pawn and Gun on Mercury is the other private range on the peninsula. It does have rather limited hours, 10 to 6 Mon. to Sat. Rents guns as well as sales. 50 ft range, 4 lanes. Was $120 per year for a membership, does not require you buy their ammo.
http://www.superiorpawn.com/index.html They also have locations on the South Side.
I have not shot at the Marksman, but Lafayette definitely has a better indoor range than Superior, as well has having outdoor ranges and a shotgun range. Indoor range is open 24 hours a day, outdoor range is open during daylight hours when a RO is present, which is weekends (after noon Sundays) and most afternoons, some mornings.

I'm a satisfied member of LGC.
Superior Pawn in Norfolk is ok. Slightly more expensive than Bob's but nicer and allows birdshot. Guys behind the desk aren't too friendly though, and the last few times I went there was a sign on the front door that said you couldn't carry a loaded gun inside. [img]http://firsttimebuyers.files.wordpress. ... wn.gif[img] I avoided it even before I was a member of LGC.

I know this is pretty old but I figured I would chime in.
Being new here (to the area and the forum) it would be nice to meet up with somebody local esp at the range.
Since I am not a reservists or active duty the wife and I go on Tuesday when its Buy one get one free.

Re: Penninsula Gun Club?
Sorry to bring this thread back yet again, but I just found the forum. Is there anywhere like LGC where I may shoot outdoors without joining a club? The only place that keeps popping up is C2 Shooting Center, but the drive is a huge turn off and it looks too "serious" for my taste. I usually shoot Bob's Gun Shop in Norfolk when I get off work early as it's literally 3 streets over from my building, or Superior Pawn/The Marksman on the weekend as I live in NN.
Just want to shoot outdoors and at something other than stupid paper.

Looks like it's a no handgun range, which is all I personally own at the moment.

I'm in California. Is there any gun club ?

I think we need stickers so we can identify each other. I'm a LGC member, too.

I went to the new member orientation about a month ago and received two LGC stickers.AppleaDay wrote:I think we need stickers so we can identify each other. I'm a LGC member, too.
Maybe you can get them at the business office?
Now that I am a member I wouldn't mind meeting up with some other guys for some shooting.
Re: Penninsula Gun Club?
I was thinking of VGOF stickers. I could use a Lafayette sticker too, come to think of it.

If any of you LGC members feel like you need someone to shoot with one day, let me know

Re: Penninsula Gun Club?
shot there heaps of times. Really good group of guys. Very neat and tidy range, as they often have Working B's and the guys who uses the range really look after it. Mainly rimfire benchrest, 50m prone and I think 3P, they also have an air rifle range. I was a member there for about a year. If you join the club, I think you also need to join TRV (Target Rifle Victoria). I stopped going, due to a knee replacement stuffing me around, and work taking up too much time.
They are open Monday and Wednesday. As it is not a public range, you will need to ring and speak to one of the people there, they will let you shoot as a guest a couple of times and show you around. They have benchrest stands for you to use, and targets are included in the club fee. It's also one of the only ranges I have been to where the shooters sweep up their spent cases when they leave.
