What is a "licensed gun owner'"
I assume if the firearm was in the pants pocket it would be concealed. In VA you do need a concealed permit to "legally" carry concealed. A better phrasing may have been " a concealed permit owner" but most news groups like to call it a license and in some states it is called that. At least that is my best guess at what they were trying to say. Then again the reporter and editor may not realize you don't need a "license" to legally carry in VA.
Most media types come from places like New York, Illinois, and California, where licensing is the norm. They just assume everywhere else is like where they're from. (This is a manifestation of SoCalization.)

That paired with a IFK with add-ons like chest seals, NP airway + 10 years of ems training should give me a bit more of an chance of helping in the event of a GSW.
So we all carry all kinds of junk in our ranges bags... how about adding some first aid supplies?
Even if you can't make use of all of it, you never know who is standing next to you that having a few more supplies might make the difference.
And medical alert jewelry that has that information on it would save a lot of time. You could bleed out before someone dug you wallet for the card that says that you are on the blood thinners, whatever level of their medical training!
As I recall, a Boy Scout in the VT slaughter used a tourniquet to stop himself from bleeding out from a femoral artery that was hit by a bullet.

Kind of sounds like this guy needed one. is it more tasteful if I blame the dead guy?

May not be tasteful, but it's almost surely the dead guy's fault.
This is why I've always said I'd never carry a Glock. But to pocket carry one is imprudent in the extreme.

Gun-crazy? Me? I'd say the gun-crazy ones are the ones that don’t HAVE one.

Of course it's his fault. HIS gun went off in HIS pocket. He's fortunate to have had it only kill him, and not his wife or children, or other bystander. I hate to come off as insensitive, but that's how I see it. Don't get me wrong; I feel for the family of this man. This is a very sad, very tragic, but also very preventable event.

If a gun is in a holster then it will not go off. Dispite the myths you may have heard there are no such things as trigger grimlins that reach into hostlers and pull people's trigger.

For a while, now, I've tried to come up with something to equal the success of the pet rock. Jake, you may have found it... you should go market Trigger Gremlins and make millions.

Hey now, there's a thought. Not only can we fund the pro's with the anti's money, we can then use their possession of the product to discredit them. We can call them "superstitious".

Investigators said Wednesday that the gun the victim was carrying was not housed in a holster. They think it was simply tucked into the waistband of the man's pants.
